Day Time Counter Attendant

As a Counter Attendant for the Vesper Hall Adult Activity Center, you will perform general front counter duties including assisting the public with inquiries, program registration, lunches, and facility rental arrangements.

Core duties will include:

1. Answers the telephone and greets the public in a pleasant and professional manner.

2. Registers clients for center meal programs via a computer database.

3. Provides tours of the facility to new customers and potential renters of the facility.

4. Registers and collects fees for rentals, classes, activities, and trips. Prepares daily cash sheets via computer.

5. Calls registrants to remind them of their upcoming appointments.

6. Refers customers to other senior agencies according to their needs.

7. Keeps rooms in the facility neat, orderly, and free from the trash. Locks rooms and ensures the facility is secure at closing time.

8. Performs photocopying and mailing tasks when necessary.

9. Attention to detail is required when registering patrons for courses and entering lunch reservations.

10. Assists the recreation program staff with project-related assignments, record-keeping, research and reports, and scheduling.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education and Special License(s)/Certifications – High school diploma or equivalent with courses in basic bookkeeping or accounting. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required.

2. Experience – One to two years of experience in general office work, including dealing with the public.

3. Skills - Skill in operating general office and computer equipment. Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and methodology. Needs to be knowledgeable or Microsoft Office and Excel. Comfortable working with and meeting the needs of the older population.

4. Mental Requirements - Ability to communicate effectively and interface with the public. Ability to keep sensitive information confidential. Act in a professional manner at all times. Ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

5. Physical Requirements - Must be able to sit for prolonged periods; must be able to listen to normal conversation; must be able to walk occasionally, and use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; must be able to reach with hands and arms; must be able to have vision sufficient to see close up and have the ability to adjust focus; and, must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds and transport it 15 feet.
