PARKS & RECREATION SUPERVISOR duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Facility Management
- Effectively oversee the operation of a municipal recreation center to include front desk, walking tracks, weight rooms, gymnasiums, group fitness studios, racquet ball courts, dance studios, classroom spaces and game rooms.
- Ensure effective facility supervision by performing daily, weekly, monthly and annual preventive maintenance
- Coordinate use of facility space with other departmental units (including Aquatics, Fitness & Wellness, Inclusion Services, Early Childhood, Therapeutic Recreation, Sports Management and Out of School Time)
- Effectively assess facility operations and the enforcement of City policies, procedures and safety practices
- Oversee the investigation of incidents and accidents occurring within the facility and ensure corrective action is initiated
- Work with Strategic Initiatives Unit to understand demographics, trends, and citizen priorities.
- Coordinate with Building Maintenance regarding facility projects, repairs and building updates.
Supervision
- Provide leadership and supervision to all full-time and part-time team members in the Recreation Center Services units for hiring, training, coaching, evaluating and discipline.
- Promote team work and serve as a catalyst for a positive work environment.
- Work with youth, teens, adults and seniors with diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
- Identify staff roles and responsibilities; set clear goals, expectations and accountability measures.
- Manage personnel matters and interpersonal working relationships.
- Build strong internal communications with facility team members and external communications with other work units, center members, citizens, and other City employees
- Coordinate the scheduling of programs, classes, activities and space utilization
- Review staff schedules and payroll
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers
Recreation Programming
- Ensure staff provide innovative and engaging programs and services for all ages to meet the diverse needs of the community
- Oversee the implementation of special events for recreation center members and non-members
- Build relationships and initiate collaborative projects with a variety of community groups and partners
- Serve as a community liaison.
- Oversee contracts and service agreements.
Front Desk Operations
- Provide leadership and supervision of the Front Desk operations including collection and reconciliation of revenue for memberships, classes and program registration
- Work with Creative HQ unit on membership incentives, advertising, and promotional campaigns.
- Learn ActiveNet registration database to review and audit transactions and customer accounts
- Utilize Microsoft computer applications and databases including Oracle and ActiveNet
- Provide procurement guidance and assistance to staff
Financial
- Complete monthly reconciliation reports
- Monitor and track expenditures
- Collect and analyze statistical data and assist with budget preparation
- Learn Oracle financial database, review staff purchases and follow purchasing guidelines
- Coordinate the purchasing functions for the building (Recreation Supplies, Office Supplies, Weight Room Equipment, etc.
- Review and approve reduced fee applications.
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to eight (8) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, and in areas such as parks administration, recreation administration, business administration, or public administration.
Must have a current and valid Drivers License.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.
This position may require that incumbents wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, or other designated safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate for this position will have experience listed in the preferences below. Candidates with the preferred experience should ensure the information is provided in the application.
- Experience supervising full-time staff including hiring, training, evaluating and discipline.
- Recreation facility management experience.
- Experience with budget and purchasing preparation.
- Experience implementing programs, classes, and activities to meet customer demands.
- Experience working with multiple departmental units and/or stakeholders.
Special Instructions:
This position is being advertised as a pool, and applications could be used to fill current vacancies and any other similar Parks and Recreation Supervisor positions that become available within six (6) months from the closing date of this posting.
Recreation centers are open over 90 hours per week. The work schedule associated with this position varies to facilitate center operations. Shifts could include early mornings beginning at 5:00 a.m. or late evenings until 9:30 p.m., and weekend shifts.
Work location may change based on operational needs on a rotating basis.
This is an Alpha I position, which requires reporting to work during periods of emergency or inclement weather, regardless of the City's operational status.
This position requires a First Responder Certification, or must obtain within four (4) months of hire date and maintain the certification.
Requires a current and valid Driver's license.
As a condition of employment, all employees must attend P&R Connection (Department Orientation). If selected for the position, you will be provided an approximate training date at the time of hire. Training is held from 8:30am-5:00pm, every other Friday, at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building. When an exemption is permittable, a hybrid version of the training is available, but will require training attendance on a weekend.
