HRUCKUS seeks a HEM (Helix Event Management) Software Engineer for an onsite role in San Diego, CA. The Software Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining software systems that support and enhance Helix Event Management to improve operational efficiency, safety, and reliability across transportation networks. Their responsibilities span system architecture, software integration, and hardware–software communication, ensuring seamless event monitoring and data flow within critical systems. The role also involves supporting regulatory compliance, data management, user interface design, and providing ongoing system support, all aimed at delivering secure, intelligent, and dependable transportation solutions.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, document, and maintain software systems that are integral to the functioning of rail and public transportation networks.
- Integrating software with hardware systems such as signaling equipment, communication systems, and control mechanisms that are used in railways and transportation networks. This involves understanding and implementing protocols and interfaces.
- Ensuring the safety and reliability of software systems is paramount in transportation. Software engineers implement rigorous testing protocols, fault tolerance mechanisms, and redundancy strategies to minimize the risk of failures that could affect operational safety.
- Ensure that the software systems meet regulatory standards and certifications required for the rail and public transportation industry. They stay updated with industry regulations and standards to implement them effectively in software solutions.
- Assist with designing intuitive user interfaces (UI) and user experiences (UX) for both internal and external users. Software engineers collaborate with UI/UX designers to create interfaces that are easy to navigate and enhance user satisfaction.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance for software systems, addressing bugs, and implementing updates.
- Working closely with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, data scientists, project managers, and transportation experts is essential. Effective communication skills are crucial for understanding requirements and translating them into technical solutions.
- Keeping up with technological advancements and industry trends is necessary to innovate and adapt software systems for evolving transportation needs.
- Works from mockup of or specifications to create functional code using CSS, HTML, JavaScript, or similar languages
- Uses understanding of relational databases to interchange or integrate data to and from backend databases or services
- Test for functionality and responsiveness across a variety of web enabled devices and browsers.
- Troubleshoots and resolves bugs, verifies fixes
- Conducts code review with junior engineers and ensures that work produced is of high quality and adheres to organizational and best practices.
- Stays informed of emerging trends or technologies and evaluates their value to the organization
- Manages user support and feedback.
Position Requirements:
- 2-4 years of experience in software engineering.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degrees can be beneficial.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, and JavaScript
- Experience with software development frameworks and tools relevant to the industry.
- Knowledge of hardware – software integration and communication protocols.
- Proven experience in software development, ideally with the rail or transportation industry.
- Familiarity with system design, development, and deployment processes, including Agile methodologies.
Position Details:
- This position will report primarily to an engineering lead or manager.
- The employee will work on-site at the client's office in San Diego. The employee could be asked to occasionally visit customer locations for technical meetings and reviews.
- Pay Range:
$43 to $49 an hour for highly qualified candidates. - Work Assignment:
6-month contract
