Position Overview

The Senior Director of Tax will lead the organization's tax function, overseeing compliance, planning, and strategy across federal, state, and indirect taxes. This role requires a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise and managerial experience, capable of driving process improvements and partnering cross-functionally to support business initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee income tax compliance, including estimates, data analysis, partnership income tax calculations, Schedule K-1s/K-3s, returns, and tax distributions.
  • Model financial effects of LLCA waterfall allocations to partners.
  • Manage sales and use tax compliance, including monthly filings, SKU classification, audits, and customer inquiries.
  • Analyze and report on unclaimed/escheatment property.
  • Serve as the primary tax contact for operational initiatives (e.g., new POS systems, marketplace sales).
  • Prepare and review tax documentation for bank audits.
  • Develop and manage departmental budget, negotiate external service fees, and approve invoices.
  • Mentor and develop direct reports while maintaining hands-on involvement.
  • Establish and maintain processes to ensure timely, accurate compliance and audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with accounting, treasury, and legal teams on tax-related matters.
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors and service providers.

Qualifications

  • CPA required
    ; Master's in Taxation preferred.
  • Strong mix of public accounting and corporate experience; Big 4 background highly preferred (national CPA firm experience considered).
  • Experience with private equity-owned companies or private equity tax clients.
  • Partnership income tax calculations, Schedule K-1/K-3 preparation, tax distributions.
  • Modeling LLCA waterfall allocations.
  • Expertise in federal and state tax compliance and returns.
  • Familiarity with indirect tax compliance and escheatment property reporting.
  • Proven managerial experience with ability to remain hands-on.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confident and diplomatic demeanor.
