Job Title: Staff Accountant

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Schedule: Monday-Friday (hybrid possible 2 days/week)

Status: Full-time, Exempt, 40 hours per week

Position Summary:

Responsible for maintaining day to day operations of the accounting department while performing a broad range of accounting and financial support duties. Maintain office and accounting policies and procedures. Assist accounting staff with month end close, budget, reconciliations, and various schedules related to external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare day-to-day, monthly and adjusting journal entries

  • Assist with recording revenue and accounts receivable transactions

  • Deposit and record checks accurately and timely

  • Assist with preparing grant and construction draw billings I documents

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts including cash, receivables, prepaids, payables, fixed assets and other key accounts

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing audit schedules and supporting business information and tax returns

  • Maintain complete and accurate digital and paper records

  • Prepare detailed and complex financial analyses and ad hoc reports as required

  • Respond to a variety of staff information requests related to operations

  • Assist with implementing, monitoring, and improving internal financial controls and procedures

  • Support system enhancements, workflow improvements, and data clean-up initiatives.

  • Serve as backup to other positions within the department as needed

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A dedication to our mission of creating affordable housing in the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia

  • Work effectively in a hybrid environment using Teams, Zoom, and other collaboration tools

  • Proven ability to read and analyze financial transactions and reports

  • Demonstrated experience in improving processes

  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills

  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Windows including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint and Outlook as well as general office equipment

  • Proven ability to work independently as a self-starter

  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects at once and prioritize based on staff / organizational needs

  • Proven ability to work with sensitive and confidential information

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise excellent judgment in representing the organization

  • May require sitting or standing for long periods of time

  • Must be able to lift up to 30lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55, $60,000.00 per year
