Position: Website Content Manager

Department: Office of Communications and Public Relations

Reports To: Executive Director of Communications and Public Relations

Classification: Exempt

General Description

The Website Content Manager develops, maintains, and optimizes archdiocesan websites and content to shape our online presence and ensure they align with and support the mission and priorities of the Archdiocese of Newark. This role combines creativity, technical expertise, and strategic thinking to oversee web strategy, content creation, and analytics, ensuring engaging, accurate, and mission-driven online communication.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities

The following specific responsibilities are representative of the duties required in this position. They may be unilaterally but reasonably changed based on the working environment and departmental needs.

  • Develop and implement website strategies that align with archdiocesan goals and digital best practices.
  • Manage and oversee the design, functionality, and user experience of all archdiocesan web properties.
  • Publish, edit, and update content regularly, including text, images, graphics, video, and audio, using platforms like WordPress and Drupal.
  • Use analytics tools and engagement metrics to monitor performance, identify improvements, and guide content strategy and data-driven decisions.
  • Manage web taxonomies and content organization to ensure consistency and accessibility across platforms.
  • Partner with departments to maintain and update webpages; train content editors on CMS use and updates.
  • Monitor campaign URLs, KPIs, and analytics dashboards to evaluate and report on digital effectiveness.
  • Prepare reports on web performance, insights, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate daily content updates and ensure timely publishing of priority communications.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and content strategy of the archdiocesan intranet.
  • Stay current with emerging web content trends and technologies, recommending enhancements as needed.
  • Collaborate with IT staff and third-party vendors to resolve technical issues and optimize performance.
  • Provide support during off-hours for urgent communications or crisis-management needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Expertise in website content management, digital strategy, and search engine optimization (SEO).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, HTML, CSS, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Excel, Google Analytics, Tag Manager, and Search Console.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative, with the ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility to support evening or weekend events as needed.
  • Familiarity with photography, video, or A/V production is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of the Catholic Church's mission, teachings, and structure; knowledge of the Archdiocese of Newark's geography and communities preferred.

Education and/or Experience (Preferred)

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media or a related field is required. Certifications in SEO, content marketing, or digital marketing is a plus.
  • Prior professional experience (3–5 years) in web content creation, blog management or digital marketing is required. Additionally, experience with analytics tools like Google Analytics to interpret web traffic data is beneficial.
