      TITLE: ANTICIPATED BUS DRIVERS (Part-Time)
     
    JOB GOAL: To transport pupils in a safe and efficient manner and perform all activities related to the operation of the school bus. 

    QUALIFICATIONS:
  1.  Valid Commercial Driver's License.
  2.  Must be able to drive an automatic or stick shift.
  3.  Must be able to use all manual equipment inside the bus without straining (manual door, stick shift and brake).
  4.  Must be able to climb steps and move quickly without restrictions to the back of the bus during a bus evacuation.
  5.  Minimum safe driving experience as determined by the board.
  6.  Sufficient mechanical aptitude to diagnose minor problems and make appropriate repairs.
  7.  Must be able to control emotions and maintain passenger discipline to ensure their safety and well-being and protect against vandalism.
  8.  Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
  9.  Does not have any visual or perceptual problems that could interfere with the operation or safety of the bus.
 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  
  1.   Required to stand, sit, walk and use hands and arms continuously in controlling  the steering wheel of the bus.
  2.   Required to continuously use hand and arm strength to grasp and secure the emergency brake and to control the steering wheel during turns more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
  3.   Required to frequently bend, squat and twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
  4.   Required to frequently move or lift up to 50 pounds in assisting a child into a booster or car seat.
  5.   Must be able to go up and down bus steps repeatedly without restrictions.
  6.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  7.   Must be able to move the leg from the gas pedal to the brake quickly and without restrictions.
  8.   Must be able to move on and off the bus quickly and without restrictions.
  9.   Must be able to project the voice loudly but in control so all students can receive instructions.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Conducts a pre-trip safety inspection of the bus prior to every trip and completes the School Bus Condition Report.
  2. Notifies transportation supervisor of any mechanical malfunctions and/or safety hazards.
  3. Adheres to established routes, designated bus stops and keeps to assigned time schedule.
  4. Transports only authorized pupils.
  5. Obeys all traffic laws and observes mandatory school bus safety regulations.
  6. Maintains discipline on the bus and reports violations to the building principal or other authorized individual.
  7. Reports all accidents and pupil injuries immediately to the principal and the school business administrator and completes required reports.
  8. Participates in emergency evacuation drills in accordance with board policy, and instructs passengers regarding safety regulations and other bus rules.
  9. Performs interior bus cleaning duties daily, cleans windows and exterior as needed, and refuels the vehicle.
  10. Performs light maintenance (check and replace water, antifreeze, oil and battery water; add air to tires; replace burned out bulbs) as necessary.
  11. After each route must inspect the entire bus to make sure no students are left on the bus.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Salary and work year to be determined by the board of education.
 
EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of non-certified staff.
