Job Summary

The Executive Director, Government Communications is responsible for shaping and executing high-impact strategic communications related to federal legislative, regulatory, and public policy initiatives. This role will play a critical role in shaping the company's public narrative around key policy issues while strengthening Comcast's reputation among policymakers, regulators, media, and opinion leaders in Washington, D.C.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities 

  • Lead the development of strategic communications plans supporting Comcast's federal legislative, regulatory and public policy priorities in Washington, D.C.

  • Translate complex public policy and regulatory issues into accessible, compelling messages for policymakers, the media, and other key stakeholders. 

  • Develop and execute thought leadership strategy and prepare executives and subject matter experts for external engagements, media interviews, and industry events. 

  • Draft written materials including press statements, talking points, op-eds, and policy narratives that align with company goals.

  • Serve as a communications advisor to provide federal government affairs executives with messaging guidance. 

  • Develop and implement crisis and rapid response communications related to legislative or regulatory developments. 

  • Cultivate strong relationships with national, political, and policy journalists; ensure company positions are represented accurately and effectively in media coverage. 

  • Oversee earned media strategies targeting Washington and Beltway outlets, as well as trade and business publications. 

  • Collaborate with digital team to create multi-media content that clearly communicates company policy positions.  

  • Advise on digital media strategy and content for policy and stakeholder audiences. 

  • Coordinate with external agencies to deliver integrated campaigns. 

  • Partner with state and local government communications team to ensure message consistency and unified brand voice. 

  • Establish success metrics and regularly report on communications outcomes. 

  • Internal communications support as needed.  

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

Prior Professional Experience & Qualifications 

  • 10–15 years of experience in federal public affairs, political communications, or government communications, with significant experience in Washington, D.C. 

  • Understanding of telecom, broadband policy, media, and technology issues. 

  • Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation abilities. 

  • Strategic mindset with capacity to manage complex, fast-moving policy environments. 

  • Proven success engaging high-level media, policymakers, and advocacy organizations. 

  • Track record of successfully positioning corporate policy initiatives to support both legislative goals and brand trust. 

  • Ability to balance short-term communications demands with long-term reputation and policy strategy. 

  • Overall team player.  

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

  • Prior Comcast experience is required.

Compensation

Primary Location Pay Range: $187, $281,656.64

Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
