NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY

Job Title: Assistant Highway Maintenance Supervisor

The work involves responsibility for assisting the Highway Engineering and Maintenance Supervisor in planning, coordinating and reviewing the activities of work crews engaged in construction and maintenance of county roads, facilities and adjacent areas. The incumbent is responsible for the efficient and economical use of work crews, materials and equipment in the various construction and maintenance activities. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Highway Engineering and Maintenance Supervisor or higher level administrator with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision is exercised over subordinates. Does related work as required.

Work Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week with benefits

Salary: $63,697-84,781/YR(Management Contract)

Location: Cortland County Department OF Public Works

Status: Competitive, Probationary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:

(a) Possession of an Associate's degree or higher in engineering or construction technology and six (6) years of experience in construction and/or maintenance of highways in such areas as drainage, earthwork, paving, surface treatment or shoulder stabilization, one and one-half (1.5) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; OR

(b) Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency diploma and eight (8) years of experience as defined in (a), one and one-half (1.5) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New York State Driver's License appropriate to the vehicles operated.
