TRACK LABORER

Mass Coastal Railroad

Location: Lakeville, Ma

Status: Full Time/Hourly

Proposed Rate of Pay: $20 - $22/hr

About the Company:

This position is for a Track Laborer at Mass Coastal Railroad in Lakeville, Ma. The ideal candidate will be required to perform routine maintenance and construction work on railroad tracks, bridges, and right-of-ways.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate track maintenance equipment (hydraulic power tools, spike puller, etc.) to grind ends of rails, remove old spikes, drive new spikes, cut ties and perform related maintenance
  • Work in a team setting as a member of a work crew
  • Use power drill to drill holes through rail or tie plates for insertion of bolts and spikes
  • Operate track wrench machine to tighten or loosen bolts at rail joints.
  • Operate rail saw to cut rail to specified lengths
  • Load/Unload and general handling of materials and equipment as instructed
  • Perform various type of bridge maintenance as needed
  • Assist other employees when and where instructed
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 2 years of experience on a railroad is preferred
  • Experience with crossing signal maintenance is a plus
  • Must be able to read and comprehend written safety rules, procedure and safety manuals, government regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, memos and other work-related information
  • Able to think and act quickly in responding to emergency and non-emergency situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to handle medium to heavy work; lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 80 pounds on a rare basis
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations to prevent on duty accidents and injuries
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
  • Must be able to work in an extremely loud work environment

  • Applicant must be currently authorized to work permanently in the United States
  • Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check Job
  • Subject to DOT Random Drug Testing
  • Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $20 - $22/hr Starting Rate
