About the RoleAs a Software Engineering Specialist on the Human Data team, you'll create cutting-edge datasets for training, benchmarking, and advancing large language models, collaborating closely with technical staff. You'll support xAI's mission by teaching AI models about human interactions, reactions, and problem-solving approaches through labeling and annotating data in text, voice, and video formats. This includes curating code examples, providing precise solutions, and making corrections in Python, JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go; evaluating and refining AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability; and working with cross-functional teams to enhance enterprise-level AI-driven coding solutions. Tasks may involve gathering or providing data, such as recording audio or video sessions, with which candidates must be comfortable to drive innovation.
Responsibilities- AI model training initiatives by curating code examples, offering precise solutions, and meticulous corrections in Python, JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust and Go.
- Evaluate and refine AI-generated code, ensuring it adheres to industry standards for efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance AI-driven coding solutions, ensuring they meet enterprise-level quality and performance benchmarks.
- Advanced proficiency in English, both verbal and written.
- Strong experience in either Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, C++, Java, Rust or Go, with a solid foundation in software development practices.
- Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals like data structures, algorithms, and debugging skills.
- A minimum of 2 years of hands-on industry experience with a proven track record in software development and/or public proof of work (such as on GitHub).
- Demonstrates a strong capacity to quickly adapt by learning new skills and unlearning outdated ones, thriving in dynamic and changing environments.
- The ideal candidate for this role is adaptable, possesses strong logical reasoning skills, is detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced work environment.
- Evidence of meaningful contributions to open source projects or high reputation on platforms like Stack Overflow or evidence of strong performance in programming competitions.
- Extensive experience with a wide array of tools and systems such as Databases, SQL, Kubernetes, Spark, Kafka, gRPC, and AWS.
- Enthusiasm to collaboratively build the best truth-seeking AI out there
- This position is based in Palo Alto, CA, or fully remote.
- The Palo Alto option is an in-office role requiring 5 days per week; remote positions require strong self-motivation.
- If you are based in the US, please note we are unable to hire in the states of Wyoming and Illinois at this time.
- We are unable to provide visa sponsorship.
- Team members are expected to work from 9:00am - 5:30pm PST for the first two weeks of training and 9:00am - 5:30pm in their own timezone thereafter.
- For those who will be working from a personal device, please note your computer must be a Chromebook, Mac with MacOS 11.0 or later, or Windows 10 or later.
- You must own and have reliable access to a smartphone.
You'll be invited to complete a one-hour long coding assessment in your preferred language from Python, JavaScript, ReactJS, TypeScript, Java, C++, Rust, or Go. The team will review your assessment, CV, and statement of exceptional work. Our aim is to receive your completed assessment within one week.
If successful, you'll proceed to two technical interviews in the same programming language as you chose in the coding assessment.
$45/hour - $100/hour
The posted pay range is intended for U.S.-based candidates and depends on factors including relevant experience, skills, education, geographic location, and qualifications. For international candidates, our recruiting team can provide an estimated pay range for your location.
Benefits:Hourly pay is just one part of our total rewards package at xAI. Specific benefits vary by country, depending on your country of residence you may have access to medical benefits. We do not offer benefits for part-time roles.
