Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Utilities Pipe Layer to join our construction team. The Pipe Layer will be responsible for installing underground utility systems including water, sewer, and storm drainage pipes. This role requires experience in trenching, grading, pipe alignment, and working safely around heavy equipment and active job sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install water, sewer, and storm drainpipes according to project plans and specifications.
  • Excavate and prepare trenches using hand tools and/or heavy equipment.
  • Set and align pipe sections using lasers, grade stakes, and levels.
  • Ensure proper bedding and backfill around pipes to meet compaction and safety standards.
  • Cut and fit pipe to required lengths using saws or pipe-cutting tools.
  • Collaborate with equipment operators, laborers, and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist with site layout and marking utilities as needed.
  • Perform inspections and tests to verify pipe installation meets code and project requirements.
  • Ensure pipes and materials are properly and safely laid down by suppliers.
  • Operate equipment skillfully and responsibly ensuring productivity but also proper equipment care.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in underground utility installation or pipe laying.
  • Familiarity with PVC, HDPE, ductile iron, and concrete pipe materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and grade stakes.
  • Experience using pipe lasers, trench boxes, and compaction equipment.
  • Strong understanding of trench safety and OSHA regulations.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in outdoor conditions.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrable experience using equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor construction sites with exposure to weather, mud, and uneven terrain.
  • May require overtime, weekend work, and travel between job sites.
  • Physical demands include bending, lifting, digging, and standing for extended periods.
