Job Title: Metal Racker

Department: Production

Reports To: Plating Supervisor / Operations Manager

Employment Type: 2nd Shift, 4:30PM-3:00AM, Monday-Thursday

Location: Tulsa, OK

Position Summary

The Metal Racker is responsible for properly preparing and fixturing parts for the plating process. This role ensures that parts are cleaned, masked, and securely racked for optimal electrical contact, coating coverage, and consistent quality throughout the plating operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rack parts onto plating fixtures to ensure proper electrical contact and uniform metal distribution
  • Unrack finished parts after plating without damaging coatings
  • Inspect incoming parts for defects, oil, scale, burrs, or contamination
  • Perform part preparation including:
  • Degreasing and cleaning
  • Masking or plugging as required
  • Verify proper spacing, orientation, and load weight on racks
  • Handle parts carefully to prevent scratches, dents, or deformation
  • Follow detailed work instructions and job travelers
  • Maintain accurate counts and job identification throughout production
  • Assist with stripping and re-racking of rejected parts
  • Perform basic visual inspection before and after plating
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized prep and racking area (5S standards)
  • Follow all safety procedures for chemical handling and PPE use

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Manufacturing, metal finishing, or industrial prep experience helpful but not required
  • Ability to work with small, delicate, or high-volume parts
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency
  • Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods in a production environment
  • Willingness to work around chemicals with proper protective equipment
  • Basic counting, measuring, and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications (Optional)

  • Prior experience in plating, anodizing, powder coating, or painting
  • Familiarity with rack designs and electrical contact points
  • Experience with masking materials (tape, boots, stop-off lacquer)
  • ISO 9001 / AS9100 or MIL-SPEC production environments

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Factory environment with exposure to chemicals, heat, and humidity
  • Frequent lifting, bending, reaching, and standing
  • Required use of PPE: gloves, apron, safety glasses, and face shield
