Alexandria, Virginia, United States Leidos Full time $104,650 - $189,175
Job Description

At Leidos, we're more than a technology company—we're a trusted partner pioneering the future of defense and intelligence. Our diverse teams of innovators unite around a common mission: empowering our customers to succeed in their most critical operations. Guided by integrity, committed to our communities, and driven to build a sustainable future, we deliver solutions that make a real impact.

Within our Digital Modernization sector, we're leading the charge in next-generation technology—designing advanced capabilities in cyber defense, logistics optimization, security operations, and decision intelligence. These are the mission-critical systems that keep our nation secure and resilient.

We're seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join us at the U.S. Coast Guard C5ISC in Alexandria, VA. In this hands-on role, you'll design and lead transformative cloud initiatives that power critical Coast Guard operations. Leveraging deep expertise in AWS, Azure, and Python, you'll architect scalable cloud-native solutions, guide development efforts, and ensure best practices across architecture, deployment, and security—while mentoring and driving innovation that directly strengthens national security.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement and support cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform environments in alignment with established architecture and security standards.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-based applications and services.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of infrastructure as code (IaC) templates, automation frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Participate in modernization efforts, including application refactoring, containerization, and migration of workloads to cloud environments.
  • Configure, monitor, and optimize cloud infrastructure performance, ensuring reliability, availability, and cost efficiency.
  • Implement DevSecOps practices, including automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery workflows.
  • Support the implementation of security controls aligned with Zero Trust principles, IAM policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Perform system administration and troubleshooting to resolve performance and configuration issues across environments.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to ensure integration and alignment of technical solutions.
  • Assist in incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for production and deployment issues.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, including configuration details, deployment procedures, and environment standards.
  • Research and recommend tooling improvements or automation opportunities to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and provide input into sprint planning, backlog grooming, and process improvements.

Basic Qualification:

  • Requires BS and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6+ years of prior relevant experience, additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 4+ year of Administration experience with cloud-based applications (MS O365, SharePoint, Azure AD, AWS)
  • Hands-on experience administering Windows Server environments, including creation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, and patching.
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Azure AD, SAML, and related standards, procedures, and processes.
  • Proficient with cloud platforms and tools: AWS Console, Azure, Elastic, Ansible, Jira, Confluence, Git, Bitbucket, and various SaaS offerings.
  • Experience onboarding and integrating customer log data from AWS and Azure to on-premises or cloud-based analysis platforms such as Elastic or Splunk.
  • Skilled in supporting AWS cloud-hosted applications, including deployments, patches, security checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to develop, optimize, and document administrative processes, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and operational workflows.
  • Collaborates with SMEs and security teams to define and implement secure cloud architectures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to varied audiences.
  • Performs operational and day-to-day administrative support, including issue troubleshooting, change management, and problem resolution.
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks and Kafka is highly desirable
  • Proficiency with Power BI and API management is a strong advantage
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust.
  • Must, at a minimum, have one of these certifications: MCSE (Server), Certified AWS SysAdmin, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, AWS Certified Developer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Dev/Associate), AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Advanced Networking, AWS Certified Security, Azure Developer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect

At Leidos, we don't want someone who "fits the mold"—we want someone who melts it down and builds something better. This is a role for the restless, the over-caffeinated, the ones who ask, "what's next?" before the dust settles on "what's now."

If you're already scheming step 20 while everyone else is still debating step 2… good. You'll fit right in.
