We are seeking Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants to join our actively growing Home Health Team with territories in St. Louis City and County, St. Charles County, Warren, Lincoln, Franklin, and Jefferson Counties. Cooperative Home Care is a locally owned and operated home care company with a referral-heavy Home Health division. We are looking for COTAs to cover the clients in a set territory: company car and gas card are provided. The ideal candidate will be responsible for helping patients develop, recover, improve, and maintain the skills needed for daily living and working. The COTA will work with an Occupational Therapist to provide quality care to individuals of all ages who have physical, mental, developmental, or emotional disabilities.

Pay is calculated per visit. 

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Supervision of the Occupational Therapy Assistant includes: a licensed Occupational Therapist shall be accessible by telephone to the Occupational Therapy Assistant at all times while the Occupational Therapy Assistant is treating patients.  
  • Supervision of the Occupational Therapy Assistant also includes: on-site supervision shall take place every four to six visits. The supervisory visits may be made either when the Occupational Therapy Assistant is present so that the supervisor may observe and assist, or when the Occupational Therapy Assistant is absent so that the supervisor may assess relationships and determine whether goals are being met. Supervision does not constitute treatment.  
  • Supervision of the Occupational Therapy Assistant also includes: the supervisory visit shall include a complete on-site functional assessment, an on-site review of activities with appropriate revision of treatment plan, and an assessment of the utilization of outside resources.  
  • Select therapy activities to fit patients' needs and capabilities.  
  • Observe and record patients' progress, attitudes, and behavior and maintain this information in client records.  
  • Communicate and collaborate with other healthcare professionals involved with the care of a patient.  
  • Maintain and promote a positive attitude toward clients and their treatment programs.  
  • Monitor patients' performance in therapy activities, providing encouragement.  
  • Instruct, or assist in instructing, patients and families in home programs, basic living skills, or the care and use of adaptive equipment.  
  • Implement, or assist occupational therapists with implementing, treatment plans designed to help clients function independently.  
  • Evaluate the daily living skills or capacities of physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabled clients.  
  • Aid patients in dressing and grooming themselves.  
  • Report to supervisors, verbally or in writing, on patients' progress, attitudes, and behavior.  
  • Attend continuing education classes.  
  • Assemble, clean, or maintain equipment or materials for patient use.  
  • Alter treatment programs to obtain better results if treatment is not having the intended effect.  
  • Demonstrate therapy techniques, such as manual or creative arts or games.  
  • Teach patients how to deal constructively with their emotions.  
  • Work under the direction of occupational therapists to plan, implement, or administer educational, vocational, or recreational programs that restore or enhance performance in individuals with functional impairments.  
  • Transport patients to and from the occupational therapy work area.  
  • Attend care plan meetings to review patient progress and update care plans.  
  • Design, fabricate, or repair assistive devices or make adaptive changes to equipment or environments.  
  • Perform clerical duties, such as scheduling appointments, collecting data, or documenting health insurance billings.  
  • Order any needed educational or treatment supplies.  
  • Assist educational specialists or clinical psychologists in administering situational or diagnostic tests to measure client's abilities or progress.
 

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proven work experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Keen knowledge of occupational therapy principles and practices
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Valid Occupational Therapist license in the state of Missouri
