Position Highlights
Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for data-informed decision-making and institutional excellence? The University of Arizona's University Analytics & Institutional Research (UAIR) invites you to join our team as the Director of Institutional Reporting & Insights. In this key leadership role, you will shape the future of data strategy at a world-class institution, driving initiatives that enhance our academic and operational effectiveness.
About the Role:
As the Director of Institutional Reporting & Insights, you will lead a dedicated team of analysts and data professionals in delivering accurate, timely, and meaningful data insights to support the University of Arizona's strategic goals. You will oversee the full spectrum of institutional research activities, including internal and external reporting, survey management, data science and the maintenance of our Interactive Fact Book.
Your role will be instrumental in coordinating data submissions to entities such as the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR), Association of American Universities Data Exchange (AAUDE), Common Data Set (CDS), Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), and other critical stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to innovate and advance a culture of data stewardship, transparency, and analytical excellence throughout the university community.
In your role, you will serve as a leader on the UAIR team, a department whose mission is to provide data that empowers campus decision-makers, informs policy and practice, and tells the Arizona story. UAIR oversees and maintains systems and services that support transactional, operational, and strategic goals of the University of Arizona. Through collaboration with stakeholders and data stewards, UAIR facilitates access to high-quality data sets while developing and refining research questions using responsible practices in business intelligence and data science. UAIR also works to interpret data and analysis results for appropriate use, facilitate educational opportunities to enhance data literacy on campus, and provide for the accreditation data needs of the university. With over 150 surveys submitted last calendar year, 10 million analyses run in the internal reporting system and close to 4500 provisioned users, UAIR is a dynamic team that provides many key services to the institution.
Candidates working anywhere in the U.S. may be considered for a remote assignment.
Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance plans; life insurance and disability programs; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; retirement plans; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more
The University of Arizona has been recognized for our innovative work-life programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Lead the University's Comprehensive Reporting Efforts: Oversee the submission of critical reports and surveys, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations (including IPEDS and Arizona Board of Regents), participating in national data exchanges (such as AAUDE, CSRDE), and contributing to influential university rankings (e.g., U.S. News & World Report, Times Higher Education). Spearhead initiatives to streamline and formalize reporting processes, conducting analyses on annual submissions to pull out key insights, thereby driving efficiency and maximizing the institution's strategic use of data.
Supervise and Develop a High-Performing Team: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of skilled data professionals, ensuring they are equipped with the training, guidance, and resources necessary to excel in their roles. Provide clear direction and ongoing feedback through performance evaluations, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, professional growth, and high-quality output. Your leadership will drive the team's success in delivering critical data insights for the university.
Collaborate on Strategic Institutional Planning: Serve as a trusted partner to senior leadership and key stakeholders across campus, providing data-driven insights that directly inform the university's long-term strategic planning initiatives. Actively identify opportunities for institutional improvement and leverage your expertise to produce compelling, data-backed recommendations that support the university's goals. Your contributions will help shape policies and initiatives that impact the entire institution.
Ensure Accurate and Timely Reporting to the Arizona Board of Regents: Collaborate closely with the Chief Data Officer and the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) to ensure the university's data submissions are accurate, timely, and responsive. Manage the preparation of over 25 annual reports and fulfill ad hoc data requests with precision, ensuring the highest standards of data integrity and compliance with ABOR requirements.
Design and Maintain Institutional Dashboards for Decision-Making: Lead the development and maintenance of comprehensive institutional and public-facing dashboards that provide timely, critical data and trends to internal stakeholders and the broader community.
