Job Description for Special Education Teacher

SET needed in Culver City, CA

Age Group: All

Start: ASAP

End date: June 2026 (Possible extension)

Total hours: 10-20 hours per week (will include 30-minute unpaid lunch)

Required License/Certification: Mild/Mod

Duties

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs and abilities.
  • Design and deliver engaging lesson plans across various subjects such as literacy, math, physical education, and life skills, incorporating curriculum development best practices.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively using behavior management techniques to create a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Utilize learning technology and adaptive tools to enhance instructional delivery and student engagement.
  • Collaborate with speech therapists, behavioral therapists, and other specialists to support speech therapy, behavioral health interventions, and early intervention programs.
  • Conduct assessments using standardized testing methods to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Provide support for students with autism, developmental disabilities, hearing impairments (deaf education), or other special needs through specialized teaching strategies.
  • Engage in lesson planning that incorporates Montessori methods or preschool experience when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, attendance, and compliance with educational regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and team members regarding student development and educational strategies.

Experience

  • Prior classroom experience in special education settings is required; experience working with children with disabilities such as autism or developmental delays is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of childhood development principles, behavior management techniques, and early childhood education practices is essential.
  • Experience with speech therapy integration, behavioral therapy techniques, and working with IEPs is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with learning technology tools and curriculum development for diverse learners is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children in daycare, preschool, private school environments or similar settings is important.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams are critical for success in this role. Pay: $ $60.00 per hour
