Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will work closely with WellShare's Executive Director and administrative team to execute monthly financial tasks and support long-term fiscal strategy. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with nonprofit and claims-based healthcare accounting experience. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for executing month-end close, managing revenue recognition, supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and contributing to internal controls and financial policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial reporting: Preparing and analyzing financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • A/P & Payroll Processing: perform accounts payable, payroll, and administrative functions for corporate entity in accordance with established policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Month-end and year-end close: Managing and assisting with the accurate and timely completion of month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Account reconciliation and analysis: Reconciling sub-ledger to general ledger accounts, analyzing financial records, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Journal entries: Preparing and reviewing journal entries to ensure proper recording of financial transactions.
  • Budgeting and forecasting: Assisting with budget preparation, preparing monthly budget variance analyses, and providing insights for future financial planning.
  • Audits, internal controls, and compliance: Supporting and overseeing internal and external audits, including preparing tax returns and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. Additionally, this role takes the lead in improving systems for transparency, accountability, and compliance with nonprofit regulations and funder policies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (CPA or MBA a plus).
  • Minimum 5 years experience in nonprofit accounting or finance.
  • Proven experience as a senior level Accountant with accounting responsibilities.
  • Technical Accounting expertise: Strong knowledge of GAAP for nonprofit organizations and relevant accounting standards and regulations. Claim based revenue recognition and billing experience preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills in accounting software: Sage Intact and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of financial data.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial report development
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with colleagues, management, and stakeholders.
  • Time management and organization: Ability to prioritize task, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
