JOB DESCRIPTION
Secondary English Teacher
1. Job Title: Teacher
2. Education and Experience Required: A baccalaureate or higher degree in field related to education and an ACSI teacher credential – or if on a professional improvement plan with approval of the School Administrator and the Advisory Council.
Work Hours: Three to six classes plus prep per day. Monday-Friday during school year.

4. Responsible to: School Principal
5. Supervises: Aides, Volunteers, Students
6. Evaluation: Teacher performance will be evaluated twice yearly. Details are found in the Life Christian School Staff Handbook and this job description.

❖ Be an adherent or member in good standing of a church with a Statement of Faith in agreement with Life Christian School's Statement of Faith; and support the church with regular attendance, tithes and offerings.
❖ Be a Christian separate from worldly habits, such as smoking, drinking, lying, gossiping, immoral conduct and other such activities.
❖ Endeavor to walk in holiness and temperance to be an example to the students.
❖ Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children's education and be prepared to assist them in that task.
❖ Uphold and follow all policies listed in the staff and student/parent handbooks and contract.
- General Description of Job:
❖ Reflects the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and in every activity.
❖ Cooperates with the School administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
❖ Integrates Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities.
❖ Teaches all subjects in assigned grade level as prescribed by the school principal.
❖ Prepares course objectives, lesson plans, and syllabi following curriculum guidelines/requirements of the school and state.
❖ Lectures, demonstrates and uses audiovisual aids and computers to present academic, social, and motor skill subject matter to class.
❖ Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to do his/her best work.
❖ Utilizes valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school's philosophy.
❖ Employs a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, social and physical.
❖ Plans through approved guidelines the balanced classroom use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media.
❖ Maintains a clean, orderly, suitable learning environment in classroom.
❖ Teaches rules of conduct and maintains discipline.
❖ Has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity.
❖ Uses homework effectively for drill, review, enrichment, or project work.
❖ Prepares, administers and scores tests.
❖ Assigns, reviews and scores homework lessons and special projects.
❖ Keeps accurate records of student grades and attendance and prepares progress reports and report cards as outlined by the school principal.
❖ Evaluates student performance and discusses the student's performance with school principal and parents.
❖ Supervises students at all times during school day or school events.
❖ Instructs students as needed regarding academic or behavior problems.
❖ Consults with school principal regarding students' unresolved academic or behavior problems.
❖ Recognizes the need for good public relations. Represents the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school's constituency and the general public.
❖ Deals with others Biblically as outlined in the staff handbook.
❖ Attends and participates in scheduled devotionals, in-service, retreats, open house, programs, faculty meetings and special events.
❖ Knows and follows the procedures as outlined in the staff handbook.
❖ Informs the administration in a timely manner if unable to fulfill any duty assigned.
❖ Prepares adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher.
- Job Description – Supplemental Functions
❖ Supervise extra-curricular activities, organizations and outings as assigned.
❖ Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth.
❖ Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school.
❖ Support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when possible.
❖ Perform any other duties which may be assigned by the administration.

14. Work Environment: Classrooms have a teacher to student ratio of 1:20.
Classrooms are air-conditioned with carpeted floors. Playground has concrete, grassy and bark areas.
15. Possible Job Modifications:
❖ Teacher can assign a student helper to move equipment and hand out/collect student papers.
❖ Teacher can alternate sitting and standing as needed.
❖ Teacher can utilize overhead projector and/or computer to reduce reaching required for writing on the whiteboard.
❖ Teacher can be exempted from playground duty or after school activity supervision on a temporary basis.
