The Principal Engineer serves as the leader in the delivery of energy engineering–related services for large-scale commercial projects. This role is responsible for guiding all phases of project development — from conceptual design through commissioning — to ensure alignment with energy efficiency, sustainability, and electrification goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish design criteria, technical specifications, and performance requirements for energy systems and components.
  • Lead the development of project conceptual and schematic designs, ensuring compliance with energy performance and sustainability objectives.
  • Prepare and validate cost estimates, feasibility studies, and life-cycle cost analyses.
  • Review and approve submittals, ensuring adherence to project requirements and technical standards.
  • Oversee project measurement, verification, and commissioning to ensure operational performance and compliance with design intent.
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic guidance throughout all project phases, collaborating with architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Support design-build program management, including procurement and coordination of project deliverables.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in New York State, or eligibility for NYS reciprocity.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in design-build program management, design, or procurement.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working on large-scale commercial building energy efficiency and electrification projects.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, sustainability standards, and energy performance modeling.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
