Flexographic Press Operator

A flexo press operator sets up, operates, and maintains flexographic printing presses to produce high-quality printed materials, such as packaging or labels. Key responsibilities include machine setup, ensuring proper color and registration, monitoring production, performing quality checks, minor maintenance, and adhering to safety and production schedules. Essential skills include mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and knowledge of printing inks and materials.
Key responsibilities
- Setup: Prepare and set up the printing press according to job specifications, which includes installing printing plates, rollers, and other components, as well as filling ink reservoirs.
- Operation: Operate the press to produce a variety of printed materials, loading substrates into the machine and making adjustments as needed.
- Quality control: Monitor the printing process to ensure colors, registration, and overall print quality meet job specifications. This involves performing visual inspections and using quality control equipment.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating machine parts, and troubleshoot problems like web breaks or poor print quality to keep the press running efficiently.
- Production management: Follow daily schedules and job orders, manage material waste, and move finished products to the next stage of production.
Essential skills and qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude: The ability to understand and work with complex machinery.
- Attention to detail: Crucial for accurate setup, quality control, and troubleshooting.
- Color recognition: Ability to match and detect differences in color and brightness.
- Knowledge of inks: A good understanding of different types of inks and how to manage their viscosity and color.
- Problem-solving skills: Ability to quickly identify and resolve issues that arise during production.
- Physical ability: Must be able to perform tasks that involve standing, lifting, and using hands and arms.
Typical requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with flexographic printing presses.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment is often helpful.
- Certification, such as from the Flexographic Technical Association (FTA), may be beneficial.
