Maintenance Supervisor

We are looking to add a Maintenance Supervisor - 2nd shift to our plant in Carlisle, PA. The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for directly supervising the work of Maintenance Technicians. Delegating work orders and preventive maintenance orders to the Maintenance Technicians. Expected hours of work 40 hours a week with possibility of overtime, variable shifts. Travel for training or other plant observations when necessary. The Maintenance Supervisor oversees the efficient operation and management of the maintenance team, ensuring equipment reliability, workplace safety, and operational continuity. This role involves planning, coordinating and supervising maintenance activities, scheduling repairs, and supporting preventative maintenance programs. The supervisor also provides leadership and guidance to staff, monitors performance, ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory standards, and problem solving and decision making are facilitated. Additionally, they collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations to optimize processes, manage resources, and address technical challenges, contributing to the overall success of the organization.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work closely with maintenance and production to improve standard work that impacts our equipment and quality.
- Ownership of maintenance coordination efforts, including the advancement of planning, scheduling, and inventory control.
- Work with the Maintenance Planner and Reliability Engineer to create standard work procedures to ensure preventative maintenance (PM) and WOs are executed accurately. Standardize PM instructions to maximize the impact of the PM and efficiency of the technician.
- Work with the Maintenance Scheduler prioritizing WOs in the backlog.
- Assist team with PM Optimization and auditing of maintenance processes.
- Identify obsolete equipment/components within the plant and work to find modern equivalent replacements.
- Support project engineering with project prioritization for the plant and use data to build project justification.
- Work with the maintenance team to determine individual training needs and develop programs to keep skills up to date with current standards.
- Support COS improvement initiatives.
- Support Safety Initiatives
- Ensure Company and Departmental policies are being followed by the maintenance team.
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Know and understand the technical, engineering and quality requirements of the facility
- Computer skills required:
- SAP/CMMS & purchasing
- Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams & Power Point
- AutoCAD
- Read and interpret vendor manuals and drawings
- Communicate clearly and effectively with shop floor personnel, vendors, OEM suppliers, and management personnel
- Perform some level of cost analysis and work within a structured budget
- Write detailed repair reports
- Develop and deliver a clear and concise presentation when required

Education & Experience
- Education
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and/or Industrial Engineering
- Experience
- 3-5 years of industrial manufacturing and maintenance experience
- Leadership experience preferred

- Time monitoring for WO/PM scheduled time vs actual time

Work Environment/Time Worked
- Work Environment
- Work occurs inside and outside of all buildings on the Carlisle campus
- Plant ambient temperatures in the summer match the outside temperature
- Potential for temperatures exceeding 100ᵒF and below 32ᵒF
- May be required to work in high places near the ceiling and carbon black system
- Exposure to rubber fumes, cleaning solutions, chemicals, contact cleaners, carbon black, solvents, hydraulic oils, lubricating oils, airborne mica dust, combustible dust, and loud noise levels (PPE Provided)
- Pinch hazards on moving mechanical parts such as conveyors, production equipment, and maintenance shop equipment
- Confined space work inside the vulcanizer, under equipment, and inside the mixer body
- Heavy equipment includes forklifts, hoists, bridge cranes, tractors, trucks, and hydraulic lifts
- Time Worked
- 5 days scheduled based around responsible shifts including 2nd shift, weekend and holidays.
- Responsible for multiple shifts of maintenance technicians. Standard schedule to be split between the following shifts:
- 2nd shift from 3:00PM – 11:30PM
- Weekend Shift 1
- 11:00PM – Sat. 7:30AM
- 7:00PM – Sun. 7:30AM
- 7:00PM – Mon. 7:30AM
- Weekend Shift 2
- 7:00AM – 7:30PM
- 7:00AM – 7:30PM
- 7:00AM – 3:30PM
- Occasional off hours are required to respond to special projects or equipment failure situations
- Temporary alternate shift assignment may be required to attend scheduled trainings or assignments
Physical Requirements
- Climbing – must be able to climb ladders and stairs
- Balancing – while working from scissor lifts or in certain positions while working on equipment
- Stooping, Kneeling, & Crouching – while working on low areas of equipment
- Crawling – while working under equipment
- Reaching – must be able to reach above shoulder level
- Standing – must be able to stand for the majority of the shift
- Walking – must be able to walk to and from areas of the plant throughout the day
- Pushing – while moving heavy equipment
- Pulling – while using torque wrenches and other hand tools
- Lifting – must be able to lift up to 60lbs
- Grasping & Dexterity – must be able to use fingers and hands to put washers on bolts, start screws and nails, fit parts, and feeling equipment in awkward work locations
- Talking & Hearing – must be able to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, management, other employees in the plant, and to listen to equipment
