Job Description: Weaver Johnston & Nelson, PLLC is seeking an Associate Attorney with 3+ years of litigation experience to join our healthcare litigation practice. The ideal candidate should have some portable business and a strong background in representing healthcare providers in litigation, disputes, and regulatory enforcement matters. This role offers the opportunity to handle complex litigation while growing a practice within a highly respected healthcare law firm.

Ideal candidates are well-trained, confident litigators who want real control over their schedules, a sustainable work–life balance, and the ability to earn significantly more than they would in a traditional large-firm environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent hospitals, physicians, post-acute care providers, ambulatory surgery centers, and other healthcare entities in litigation, arbitration, and administrative proceedings.
  • Handle healthcare-related business disputes, including contract disputes, fraud and abuse allegations, reimbursement matters, employment disputes, and regulatory enforcement actions.
  • Defend clients in government investigations, False Claims Act cases, and commercial litigation involving healthcare providers.
  • Draft and argue motions, pleadings, discovery responses, and appellate briefs.
  • Take and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses.
  • Participate in mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.
  • Provide strategic counsel on risk management and litigation avoidance for healthcare clients.
  • Maintain and expand a portable book of business while developing long-term client relationships.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active Texas Bar license (or ability to obtain one promptly).
  • 3+ years of litigation experience, preferably with a focus on healthcare-related matters.
  • Strong background in healthcare law, business litigation, fraud and abuse laws, and government investigations.
  • Some portable business and a commitment to growing a client base in healthcare litigation.
  • Excellent oral advocacy, legal writing, and analytical skills.
  • Experience handling all phases of litigation, including motion practice, discovery, depositions, and trial preparation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and client management skills.
