We are seeking a dedicated Animal Care Technician to join our vivarium husbandry team in a leading research facility. The ideal candidate will ensure the health, welfare, and daily care of laboratory animals while maintaining a clean and compliant research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily animal husbandry duties including feeding, watering, and general care of laboratory animals.
  • Monitor animal health and behavior; promptly report abnormalities or concerns to the supervisor or veterinary staff.
  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain animal cages, racks, and equipment according to established SOPs and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate animal room records, inventory, and environmental data logs.
  • Follow all biosecurity, safety, and regulatory protocols (AAALAC, USDA, IACUC, and facility standards).
  • Assist with animal transfers, identification, and breeding records as required.
  • Support veterinary and research staff in handling, restraint, or minor technical procedures.
  • Observe and ensure proper environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, and ventilation.
  • Participate in ongoing training and maintain compliance with institutional policies and animal welfare regulations.
  • Perform additional husbandry or facility support tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree in Animal Science, Biology, or related field preferred).
  • 0–2 years of experience in animal husbandry, research, or vivarium setting.
  • Knowledge of proper animal handling techniques and cage sanitation procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory/biotech environment with animals (typically rodents).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • ALAT or LAT certification (AALAS) is a plus but not required.
