We are currently seeking to fill a faculty position in the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrician at the Golisano Children's Hospital of the University of Rochester.

This is a vibrant multidisciplinary division with approximately 90 faculty and staff who participate in active clinical and research programs focusing on autism spectrum disorders, health disparities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the needs of transition-age youth, developmental and behavioral screening, and other areas, including translational research collaboration.

The Division provides developmental diagnosis and management for children and youth with a wide array of developmental disorders from the Rochester metropolitan area and much of Western New York State. There are over 10,000 visits to the interdisciplinary Developmental and Behavioral Pediatric clinic annually. Division faculty maintain an active portfolio of funded sponsored programs with close collaboration across the university. Graduate education includes medical student and resident teaching, an ACGME Fellowship in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program, and postdoctoral students in psychology and other disciplines. In addition, the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, the UCEDD, widens the scope of Divisional activities to include advocacy and community-based initiatives across the lifespan. ICARE* values are demonstrated in all responsibilities.

Patient Care

This position includes patient care in a novel outpatient clinic setting that has a colocation of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Child Neurology, and Child Psychiatry in a new building designed to facilitate the care of children and youth with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental and behavioral conditions. Consultation on inpatients at the new Golisano Children's Hospital is on an on-call rotation basis.

Clinical activities include:

  • Developmental assessment and diagnosis of children and youth referred from across Western NY. Experience in the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders is essential.

  • Decision-making in patient care for developmental and behavioral conditions.

  • Monitoring appropriateness of therapeutic management and care.

  • Promotion of patient care outcomes through Quality Improvement.

  • Developing clinical skills or programs that are local or regionally distinctive.

  • To establish a coordinated care plan for each patient, providing consultative services to other physicians and clinical providers within the medical center and with the primary care provider.

  • Integrating innovative approaches to patient care, such as through telehealth or tele-mentoring.

Research

The Applicant would be encouraged to participate in scholarly activities, as evidenced by the publication of clinical investigations, clinical observations, reviews, chapters, or books; participation in clinical trials; manuscript review; and/or clinical investigations. Funds may be available to protect time for up to three years to allow the candidate to develop and implement proposed and agreed-upon research goals in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. During this time, the candidate must:

  • Demonstrate effectiveness in securing grant funding for research initiatives and programs.

  • Assist in the development and growth of new externally funded research initiatives.

  • Assist in designing and implementing programs that evaluate the efficacy of treatment or education.

  • Publish and/or co-author findings and conclusions from research in a timely fashion.

  • Presents findings internally and at national meetings.

Training

Division faculty are expected to contribute to the education of pre-service and multidisciplinary trainees. Duties may include:

  • Teaching and supervising the patient care of assigned medical students, residents, and fellows, with attention to the provision of safe and effective care and trainee educational goals.

  • Advise LEND trainees in programmatic and project activities.

  • Participate in local and regional educational opportunities

  • Participate in divisional educational programs, curricular offerings, and development of teaching materials.

Administrative

All faculty serve as consultants for other faculty in the division and across URMC, as well as for community clinicians. Faculty are expected to remain current through continuing education, literature, and seminars. Additionally, faculty are expected to participate in developing divisional policies, procedures, and standards. Faculty may be asked to participate in divisional, departmental, or faculty committees. Participation in formal academic, governmental, and specialty organizations to advance national, local, or regional care, advocacy, research, and/or training is encouraged.
