Who We Are

CEW+ (Center for the Education of Women+) empowers women and underserved individuals in the University of Michigan and surrounding communities by advocating and providing resources to help them reach their academic, financial, and professional potential. CEW+ provides resources, career & education counseling, events & workshops, emergency funding, and scholarships. We collaborate across teams for programs, projects, marketing, events, and donor engagement.

The position will lead the Counseling and Program Teams and be a member of the CEW+ Leadership Team. This position will directly supervise 5-6 professional staff positions and will report to the Director of the Center. This position is a full time, benefits eligible, exempt position. All CEW+ staff members are eligible to work remotely for a portion of their schedule. Leadership team members are expected to be on campus 3 days per week, with an occasional 4th day to accommodate meetings and events as needed. All CEW+ staff are currently on-site Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Responsibilities*

20% Executive Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team members to discuss and establish short-term and long-term objectives through a collective approach, considering the perspectives of reporting teams to address organizational needs and mission.
  • Act with agency to make informed, timely decisions that enable the Counseling and Program Management Teams to best meet the Center's mission.
  • Interview, select, and train employees; determine workloads; appraise performance and quality of work.
  • Provide supervision that includes recognizing strengths, showing appreciation, leading difficult conversations, determining the scope and priority of work, and encouraging professional development.
  • Represent and make decisions on behalf of the Center in the Director's absence, in collaboration with the Leadership Team.

40% Direction & Evaluation of Career and Education Counseling Services

  • Direct the Center's counseling services, including supervising the professional counseling staff; setting the direction for the development and delivery of counseling services; and managing financials, communication, compliance, and quality of services.
  • Set clear ethical standards for the team (including monitoring licensure compliance), establishing boundaries with constituents, and ensuring staff across the Center utilize best practices when handling detailed and confidential constituent information.
  • The AD will provide limited direct counseling during established business hours.

40% Direction & Evaluation of Programs

  • Direct and supervise the Center's Program Management staff by setting mission-driven direction for the development and delivery of programming based on organizational goals and emerging themes among constituents
  • Ensure events and workshops are complementary, coordinated, address the needs of multiple constituents across roles at U-M (students, faculty, and staff), and are feasible based on organizational capacity.
  • Coordinate program evaluations internally.
Required Qualifications*
  • Master's Degree in Social Work with current licensure in the State of Michigan
  • 4+ years applying licensure in a professional setting (counseling, interpersonal

    practice, program delivery, etc.)
  • 4+ years of successful development and implementation of innovative programs including evaluation and assessment
  • 4+ years managing professional staff
  • 1+ years of experience managing deadlines and providing executive-level reports
  • 1+ years of experience ensuring fiscal responsibility and policy compliance among those you supervise
  • Demonstrated expertise regarding issues related to gender and underserved populations through direct service, clinical focus, advocacy work, research, or coursework
  • Strong writing and communication skills, as demonstrated by application materials
  • Training in human development and/or educational access and equity

Additional Information

Reimbursement for travel for the final round interview candidates will be provided. Candidates who relocate for this position can request reimbursement for relocation expenses up to $3,000
