Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a strong understanding of veterinary practices. This role involves supporting veterinarians in providing high-quality care to our patients, ensuring their comfort and safety during visits. You will play a crucial role in the daily operations of our veterinary clinic, assisting with various tasks that contribute to the well-being of animals.

Duties

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, ensuring all necessary tools and equipment are prepared and available.
  • Provide animal restraint during examinations and treatments to ensure safety for both the animal and staff.
  • Administer medications as directed by veterinarians, including injections and oral medications.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including treatment areas, kennels, and waiting rooms.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and assist with diagnostic imaging as needed.
  • Monitor animal behavior and health status, reporting any changes or concerns to the veterinarian promptly.
  • Provide front desk support when necessary, including scheduling appointments and managing patient records.
  • Educate pet owners on proper care techniques, including nutrition, grooming, and preventive health measures.
  • Handle animals with care, demonstrating knowledge of animal physiology and anatomy to ensure their comfort during visits.

Experience

Candidates should possess a combination of the following skills and experiences:

  • Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or as a Veterinary Assistant is preferred.
  • Familiarity with veterinary terminology and procedures is essential for effective communication within the team.
  • Experience in animal husbandry, handling various species including dogs and cats is highly valued.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques and laboratory practices will be beneficial in this role.
  • Experience with medication administration, client communication and critical care is advantageous but not required.
