Job Description:
The ASU Enterprise Technology (ET) office seeks a Lead Orchestration Engineer to join our ET Orchestration Engineering team. As part of ASU Enterprise Technology's Engineering Core, this position will design, build, and maintain scalable orchestration systems that automate and optimize the deployment, configuration, and management of enterprise infrastructure and services across ASU's hybrid environments. The Lead Orchestration Engineer will play a key leadership role in modernizing ASU's automation and orchestration frameworks, driving infrastructure-as-code adoption, and integrating orchestration platforms with CI/CD pipelines. This position collaborates with development, operations, and security teams to deliver reliable, efficient, and secure infrastructure solutions that enable ASU's mission of innovation and student success.

Salary: $94,300 - $114,177; Depends on Experience
Essential Duties:
- Leverage AI in routine tasks and contribute ideas for using AI to improve the unit's efficiency and overall performance.
- Take responsibility for fostering a positive culture, upholding organizational values, and championing engagement in all its forms.
- Collaborate across teams and actively participate in ET/ASU events and programs.

- Experience developing scripts to automate the visualization of system reliability
- Experience designing procedures for system troubleshooting and maintenance
Technical tools, languages, concepts, and experiences relating to this job
- Experience/certifications for public cloud (primarily AWS, but also Azure and Google Cloud)
- Understanding of virtual machine/hypervisor/container technologies (Nutanix AHV, VMWare, Xen, Docker, Podman, LXD)
- Experience with Linux and/or Windows OS, including patch management and system maintenance
- Demonstrable scripting skills (i.e., Bash/Ksh, Powershell, Perl, Python, Ruby)
- Experience with automation and configuration management tools (i.e., Ansible, SCCM, DSC, Terraform, Jenkins)
- Experience with DevOps orchestration tools (i.e., Kubernetes, Helm, Docker Swarm, Nomad, Rancher, Red Hat Openshift)
- Experience with serverless computing and microservices platforms across different cloud providers (i.e., AWS Lambda, AWS API Gateway, AWS ECS/EKS Fargate, Google Cloud Functions, Azure Functions, etc.)
- Experience with storage technologies, including block and object storage solutions (i.e., EBS, EFS, S3, GCS, CIFS/SMB, NFS/AFS)
- Experience managing and building with job orchestration tools such as AWS Batch, AWS EMR, Hadoop, Prefect, BMC Control-M
- Experience utilizing and/or managing enterprise-scale data orchestration and analytics services and tools (i.e., IBM Datastage, Alteryx, Prefect, Mulesoft, Kafka, AWS Glue, AWS Athena, AWS Redshift, AWS RDS, StreamSets, Splunk, Tableau, SSRS, Google BigQuery, Google Analytics, etc.)
- Experience with physical and cloud network concepts and principles (i.e., OSI model, TCP/UDP/ICMP, VRFs, VLANs, VPCs, Security Groups, routing, NLB/ALB/ELB, NGFW, WAF, Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, RNAT/SNAT, Zero Trust, etc.)
- Experience with network services (i.e., NTP, DNS, DHCP, LDAP)
- Experience with secure secrets management using Hashicorp Vault and AWS Secrets Manager
Working Environment:
- Activities primarily take place in a standard, climate-controlled office environment and may involve extended periods of sitting, standing, or moving between office spaces.
- This role involves regular use of a computer (desktop and/or laptop), including a keyboard and mouse.
- Effective communication and proficiency with a variety of technologies are essential for collaboration with the broader team.
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Regular responsibilities may require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to the resolution of conflicts.
