Bartender – Caribana Island Bar & Grill (Skokie, IL)

Location: 5302 Old Orchard Rd. Skokie, IL 60077

Job Type: Part-Time / Full-Time

Reports to: Bar Manager / General Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an energetic, reliable, and professional Bartender to join our Caribana Island Bar & Grill team at our brand-new Skokie, IL location. The Bartender will be responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, delivering exceptional guest experiences, and maintaining a clean and organized bar environment. (Compensation is plus tips)

Key Responsibilities: Customer Service & Guest Experience

  • Greet guests in a friendly and welcoming manner.
  • Take drink orders directly from guests or through servers.
  • Prepare and serve cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages according to recipes and customer preferences.
  • Provide recommendations and upsell beverages, specials, and menu items.
  • Deliver attentive, timely, and professional service to ensure a positive guest experience.

Bartending & Beverage Preparation

  • Mix, garnish, and serve drinks in compliance with standard recipes and presentation guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of bar menus, cocktail recipes, and seasonal specials.
  • Monitor alcohol consumption and practice responsible alcohol service, including checking IDs for age verification.
  • Ensure proper portion control and minimize waste.

Operations & Cleanliness

  • Set up, stock, and maintain bar supplies before, during, and after shifts.
  • Clean glasses, utensils, and bar equipment.
  • Keep the bar area clean, sanitized, and organized at all times.
  • Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines in compliance with state/local laws.

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Work closely with servers to ensure guests receive drinks in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and management.
  • Support team members during busy shifts and contribute to a positive workplace culture.

Cash Handling & POS

  • Accurately process payments using the POS system.
  • Handle cash and credit transactions responsibly.
  • Balance cash drawer and reconcile sales at the end of shifts.

Compliance & Safety

  • Adhere to all state and local alcohol service laws.
  • Refuse service to intoxicated or underage guests in a polite and professional manner.
  • Report any incidents, conflicts, or safety concerns to management immediately.

Qualifications

  • Previous bartending experience preferred (restaurant/bar/hospitality).
  • Knowledge of cocktail recipes, mixology techniques, and beer/wine service.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be 21 years or older (per Illinois law).
  • BASSET certification (Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training) required or willingness to obtain before starting.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. (cases of beer, boxes of liquor, kegs with assistance).
  • Reach, bend, and stoop frequently during shifts.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week
