Job Description

Summary

Participate in a variety of technical and non-technical activities in support of the organization's manufacturing engineering needs including product and process design and redesign, sustaining engineering, and equipment and product testing across all manufacturing areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility or application.
  • Use broad knowledge of products, processes, and product use in the performance of job duties.
  • Perform product research, design, development, and testing.
  • Perform product redesign and enhancement.
  • Perform production and test equipment design, development, and testing.
  • Perform sustaining engineering.
  • Participate in manufacturing process improvement activities.
  • Implement design or process improvements that originate from manufacturing.
  • Prepare and present proposals, statements of work, technical reports, etc.
  • Design new equipment or operational procedures.
  • Conduct labor operations time studies. 
  • Develop ERP labor and material routers in collaboration with manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing departments.
  • Provide technical guidance to other personnel in manufacturing areas.
  • Design, installation, maintenance and evaluation of manufacturing test equipment as well as tools, dies and fixturing.
  • Manage material issues (internal and external) that arise in manufacturing (MRBs, NCMs, and CAPAs) working closely with QC
  • Perform day-to-day technical and non-technical activities.
  • May be assigned to lead and direct manufacturing engineering projects.
  • Work with Manufacturing, Engineering/CADD to author and release Manufacturing Process/Work Instructions. 
  • May coordinate and direct other members of the engineering staff on assigned manufacturing projects.
  • Work with SC to assist in procurement selection of raw materials used in in-house fabrications.
  • Respond to inquiries or complaints from internal production departments, vendors, and customers.
  • Participate in Company Quality and Safety systems.
  • Performs all other duties requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower level engineers including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization's policies and procedures.  This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:  

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 10 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience with Automated Manufacturing Processes and Data is a plus.

Language Skills:   

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply trigonometry, calculus and statistics for design, analysis and problem solving.

Reasoning Ability:   

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be knowledgeable in using software conducive to presenting analytical results, such as charts, graphs, and presentations using Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc. Knowledge of LabView or Python coding languages are a plus.

Other Essential Duties

Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
  • Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…)

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to travel domestically approximately 10%.
