JOB DESCRIPTION:

The position is located in EduGator Central, the College of Education's Office of Academic and Student Services, which serves undergraduate and graduate students. The Academic Advisor I is responsible for advising in the College's undergraduate majors as well as the non-teaching undergraduate minors. The advisor will: support academic success through advising at all stages of student progression – application, orientation, course and program planning, degree completion, and career planning – in consultation with faculty program coordinators as appropriate; provide support for transfer admissions; support recruitment of potential applicants at internal and external events; facilitate degree certification; and contribute to the success of the College's undergraduate experiential learning activities.

Responsibilities:

Academic and Program Advising

  • Responsible for advisement, student engagement and progression, and academic/career support of undergraduate students. Using developmental advising practices, engage new and continuing students in advisement conversations, identification of goals, course and academic planning, and timely degree completion. Monitor and suggest other UF advising processes and best-practices to enhance student success. Assist in the training of new academic advisors and support staff. Collaborate with other campus units to support student health and wellbeing, making referrals when appropriate. Handle student inquires and correspondence through email, phone, and video conferencing.

Recruitment, Admissions, and Retention

  • Working in partnership with COE Admissions, process transfer admission applications, assist with orientation, generate content, and provide presentations to support recruitment and admission for all undergraduate majors and minors. Participate in University events as requested by COE Associate Dean and Assistant Director. In collaboration with other COE staff, plan, promote, and execute COE student engagement events and activities. Assist with communications between EduGator Central and other College offices to advertise and host student events. Assist with evaluating current levels of student engagement within COE and help develop plans to increase student engagement, as appropriate. Collaborate in developing learning outcomes and metrics for engagement activities.

Data Management and Continuous Improvement

  • Analyzes data and prepares reports as appropriate based on enrollment statistics and student achievement. Maintain electronic databases concerning COE undergraduate student records, course offerings and enrollments, program milestones, graduation rates, and alumni information. Provide written reports and presentations concerning such information as directed by the Assistant Director, Associate Dean, and program coordinators. Participate in weekly Student Affairs meetings, share available program/student data, and contribute to program improvement efforts in collaboration with program coordinators and faculty.

Experiential Learning and Co-Curricular Support

  • Collaborate with EduGator and other College personnel to support undergraduate experiential learning activities and other co-curricular (e.g., undergraduate research) programming and processes. Promote, coordinate, and execute leadership of COE hosted co-curricular initiatives and events targeted for undergraduate and graduate students (e.g., COE Research Symposium). Solicit applications for the University Scholars Program, and COE High Honors projects.

Special projects and other duties as assigned

Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; with some evening advisement hours scheduled based on student availability. Limited travel required for college/university events and professional meetings.

This position requires a criminal background check and annual FERPA certification.

EXPECTED SALARY:

$45,000 - $50,000

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in education, counseling, or academic field related to the college OR Bachelor's degree in similar fields with one year of relevant experience.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience recruiting and/or advising undergraduate students and working with academic programs and faculty.
  • Familiarity with UF regulations, policies, and systems. Experience in collaboratively working with and learning from colleagues.
  • Excellent computer and technology skills; experience and comfort with online interactions; and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct professional presentations with small and large groups on topics related to areas of responsibility.
