What Will Be On Your Plate?Job Title: Produce Manager Department: Produce Reports To: Store Director FLSA Status: Non-exempt Summary This is a management position and as such, the Produce Manager will have the necessary confidence, commitment, and motivation to move towards success. Key personality and character traits needed to accomplish this are: patience, even temperedness, humbleness, good listening skills, observant, supportive, decisive, flexible, and consistent. Since this is a customer-service oriented and mentoring position, the Produce Manager must be even tempered and possess excellent people skills. In addition, the Produce Manager must have excellent communication skills, use good judgment during unexpected situations to create a win-win situation for all parties involved, be dependable and willing to work extra hours to get the job done and be creative in merchandising and selling. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Produce Manager coordinates the activities of workers engaged in ordering, processing, and selling products, by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. He or she also performs the following duties (other duties may be assigned): Prepares weekly and daily work schedules and directs the activities of employees working in the Produce Department. Is responsible for the staffing, training and overall development of employees working in the Produce Department. Ensures that employees are proficient in weighing, slicing, cutting, and merchandising all produce to remain within required Health Department regulations. Maintains a high profit margin in accordance to approved pre-set budget, which entails, but not limited to: sales goals; cost of goods; expenses, price changes, and waste management. Manages and assures high quality and proper quantity of product via proper ordering and receiving. Orders and receives products and practices proper invoice routing. Examines product bought for resale or received for storage. Manages and assures proper displaying and selling of produce items. Advises customers on the quality and best methods of handling produce items, and other factors affecting their ripening and storage. Maintains the produce department under current health codes and Bristol Farms standards on sanitation and cleanliness; this includes all cases and backroom storage locations. Has the ability to learn computer applications such as, but not limited to Microsoft Excel. Reports industrial accidents when they occur; follows proper procedures for reporting, documenting, and investigating employee accidents. Responsible for entire Produce Department in serving customers with excellent service and adhering to the 15 Second Service Policy. Serves customers with a smile and willing attitude. Assures high sales through establishing relationships with customers to ensure repeat business. Handles customer complaints in such a manner to assure customer satisfaction. At all times, meets and exceeds Bristol Farms standards in service, quality, and cleanliness. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises employees in the department and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Bristol Farms policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training and mentoring employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; verbally rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Customer Service Skills The Produce Manager is expected to provide customer service that is extraordinary and exceeds the expectations of our customers. They are required to follow established policies and guidelines that go beyond simply smiling and greeting customers. Going above and beyond encompasses attitudes, respect, and flexibility. The Produce Manager is expected to have a positive "can-do" attitude; to treat others with respect; and easily adjust to changes in the workplace. Education and/or Experience High School diploma or general education degree (GED); college degree preferred; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, or employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to analyze situations, think through to a solution and implement the solution. Knowledge Of English This is a customer service driven position. The candidate must have the ability to speak, read and understand English. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
