Summary: The Junior Designer is a technical resource responsible for supporting Senior Designers and Designers by performing design tasks in alignment with MOI's standard design process. Junior Designers are expected to embrace a growth mindset, participate actively in training and mentorship, and develop toward independently owning tasks and small projects. Their development path aligns with MOI's mission to create intelligent spaces and vision of delivering exceptional experiences and outcomes.
Essential Functions:
- Support Senior Designers and Designers with tasks such as product research, space planning, finish selection, COM testing, renderings, presentation boards, product specifications, field verification, inventory, core drill designations, installation planning, and other duties as assigned.
- Participate in mentorship and structured training with a goal of advancing to the Designer position.
- Shadow and assist in client meetings, showroom visits, and site visits as part of development.
- Demonstrate ownership by taking initiative, asking questions, and seeking feedback during project involvement.

Task Expectations:
- Participate in manufacturer and internal training sessions regularly to build product knowledge and design skills.
- Work closely with a Senior Designer mentor for at least 6 months, through either team mentorship or shadowing.
- Assist in programming, FF&E selections, typicals, renderings, and budgets under supervision.
- Gain proficiency in CET, AutoCAD, CAP2020, and Microsoft Suite by applying them to assigned design tasks.
- Generate Final Design Packages under supervision, including drawings, finish schedules, and BOMs.
- Develop familiarity with MillerKnoll furniture systems and commonly used ancillary lines.
- Attend client meetings and site visits to observe and understand expectations for independent design practice.
- Demonstrate a proactive and solution-focused mindset when learning from feedback and challenges.

Education & Experience:
- Graduate of a 4-year Design school (bachelor's) or a 2-year associate degree program (dependent on region).
Base Pay: $55,000 -$65,000 + company incentive

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to operate equipment or technology, and communicate verbally and in writing. The employee may occasionally be required to bend, reach, lift, or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Travel:
Occasional regional travel to our offices located in Baltimore, DC, Richmond, Charlottesville, Roanoke, and Virginia Beach.
