The Sunvair Aerospace Group is a leading provider of aerospace MRO services specializing in landing gear and hydraulic component overhaul, avionics, HVOF, and cargo systems. We are seeking a technically strong and organized Engineer with expertise in avionics systems, mechatronic integration and project/program management tojoin our team as the Lead Engineer in our Reno, NV facility. This role reports directly to the General Manager of Reno. The successful candidate will lead the design and sustainment of avionics hardware, basic mechanical systems, and support projects within an aerospace repair station (FAA Part 145) environment, and combines systems thinking with hands-on technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

· Manage engineering projects related to avionics system repair, redesign and troubleshooting.

· Provide engineering support for repair and overhaul activities in accordance with FAA Part 145 requirements.

· Design and document electrical wiring diagrams, harnesses, and PCB layouts for avionics-related applications.

· Lead the development and maintenance of engineering documentation such as schematics, test procedures, and compliance records.

· Serve as the engineering point-of-contact for program managers, quality assurance, and customers.

· Drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement efforts across engineering tasks.

· Support and lead engineering reviews, risk assessments, and failure analysis activities.

· Interface with DERs, Quality, and FAA inspectors for approval of engineering data and repair specifications.

· Develop Test equipment for Avionic products

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering or Engineering Technology.

· 5+ years of engineering experience.

· Hands-on experience with avionics test equipment, data buses (ARINC 429, CAN), or simulation tools.

· Strong background in R&D including wiring, connectors and electronics assembly.

· Experience with basic mechanical design for enclosures, brackets, and test fixtures.

· Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects with cross-functional teams.

· Excellent communication skills with ability to lead technical discussions and document findings clearly.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience with avionics systems, including wiring standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620, AS50881).

· Experience working in or with an FAA Part 145 repair station or MRO environment.

· Familiarity with DO-160, DO-254, or DO-178C testing standards.

· Experience with computer assisted design (CAD) tools.

· Familiarity with FAA regulatory compliance, including Part 145, AC 43.13, and RS-DER processes.

· Familiarity with embedded control principles is a plus.

Pay: $90, $125,000.00 per year
