Nurse Practitioner (Behavioral Health)

Position Summary: The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and follow-up care for clients enrolled in UHSP's outpatient behavioral health programs. The NP will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, evidence-based, and culturally responsive treatment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments for new and existing clients.
  • Diagnose and treat mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications within scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and the Clinical Director to ensure continuity of care.
  • Document all clinical encounters in compliance with COMAR and DC Health regulations.
  • Participate in treatment planning and interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Provide medication education to clients and families.
  • Respond to urgent medication needs or side-effect management requests.
  • Support compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards.

Qualifications:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure as a NP in Maryland and/or Washington, DC.
  • Valid DEA and CDS registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an outpatient or community behavioral health setting.
  • Experience with co-occurring disorders and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and documentation skills.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, culturally competent practice.

Preferred:

  • Dual licensure in both MD and DC.
  • Experience with Maryland's Medicaid system and local MCOs.

Bilingual proficiency (Spanish or other languages).
