Job Purpose

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for helping employees enroll in company benefit programs as well as assisting the Administrator in benefits billing reconciliation. Duties include meeting with employees to discuss their benefit options, keeping detailed records of employee insurance information and overseeing the enrollment process. This role is primarily responsible for informing employees about the nature of benefits plans and any changes that happen to the structure of those benefits, FMLA, and other support necessary.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting employees with selecting and enrolling in appropriate benefit plans during open enrollment periods.
  • Support the maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and update employee payroll records
  • Assist in educating employees about their benefit options, planning details, and any changes to coverage.
  • Processing benefit changes due to life events like marriage, birth, or job changes.
  • Maintaining and updating employee records to reflect their benefit choices and changes.
  • Reviewing monthly payroll deductions ensuring all benefits costs are allocated accordingly
  • Reviewing and audit monthly bills from carriers
  • Helping employees resolve issues with benefit claims or billing discrepancies along with the carriers
  • Working with insurance brokers and other benefits carriers to assist in the management of enrollment, renewals, and the delivery of benefits.
  • Tracking key benefits metrics and generating reports for management

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience

Specialized knowledge:

  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint; experience with HRIS and benefits databases.
  • Project management skills and experience.
  • Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of plan designs.
  • Knowledge of benefits contract language.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, COBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
