Job Overview

The Gas Station / Convenience Store / Deli Clerk is responsible for providing excellent customer service while maintaining safe, clean, and efficient store operations. This position handles cashier duties, food preparation, stocking, cleaning, and fuel-related safety procedures. The clerk ensures customers have a positive experience while complying with company policies, food safety standards, and fuel safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Greet customers promptly and courteously
  • Assist with purchases, questions, and basic product knowledge
  • Resolve minor customer concerns and escalate issues when needed
  • Maintain a friendly, professional, and helpful demeanor at all times

Cashier & Point-of-Sale Duties

  • Operate cash registers and POS systems accurately
  • Process cash, credit, debit, and electronic payments
  • Balance cash drawer at shift start and end
  • Follow all cash-handling and loss-prevention procedures

Deli & Food Service

  • Prepare and serve deli items following food safety standards
  • Maintain proper food temperatures and sanitation practices
  • Label, rotate, and monitor food products for freshness
  • Clean and sanitize deli equipment, prep areas, and service counters

Store Operations & Stocking

  • Stock shelves, coolers, and deli items as needed
  • Rotate products using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages
  • Maintain store cleanliness, including restrooms and trash areas

Fuel & Safety Responsibilities

  • Follow fuel safety and emergency procedures
  • Monitor fuel pumps and report malfunctions or spills
  • Enforce age-restricted sales policies (tobacco, alcohol, etc.)
  • Maintain a safe environment for customers and staff
  • General Duties
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Maintain punctuality and reliable attendance
  • Assist with opening and closing duties as assigned
  • Work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Customer service or retail experience a plus
  • Basic math and cash-handling skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of food safety practices (or willingness to train)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30–40 lbs

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced, customer-focused setting
  • Exposure to food service equipment and fuel station operations
  • Standing, walking, bending, and lifting required

Pay: From $15.05 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week
