Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional SCHOOL NURSE who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who seek a challenging yet rewarding teaching experience.

Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, teaches and instructs students in academic subject matter, social, emotional, behavioral, and educational skill areas. Additionally, School Nurse will:

We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in school nursing from an accredited college or university.Current license to practice as a registered nurse.Successful experience as a registered nurse for a minimum of 3 yearsCPR/AED/First Aid Certified

RIDE Certification Requirements:

School Nurse Teacher Certificate

ESL Certification Preferred

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Be knowledgeable and implement the School Health Program according to the Rules and Regulations of the RI Dept. of Health.
  2. Administer first aid care for medical emergencies.
  3. Assists physicians for all health examinations conducted in the school setting, also responsible for preliminary tests before physical examination i.e., height, weight, and blood pressure.
  4. Responsible for all screenings as mandated by state law.
  5. Follow-up on all defects i.e., hearing, vision failures.
  6. Responsible for follow-up on all incidents and/or accidents that occur in the school until recovery is apparent.
  7. Counseling and Home Visits.
  8. Collaborate with physicians and health agencies as it relates to student health information.
  9. Serves as a member of the Crisis Team at the school level.
  10. To maintain optimal health and well being of students.
  11. Increase knowledge of students and promote motivation so that students can make responsible decisions regarding health and lifestyle.
  12. Keeps a daily log of all illnesses and accidents.
  13. Prepare monthly reports for health administration.
  14. Serves as a consultant/resource to the principal, parents, teachers, students and outside agencies.
  15. Assists with the planning and execution of the various immunization programs.
  16. Provides in-service education for school personnel.
  17. Establish channels of communication among school staff to assure referrals of follow-up on pupil health problems.
  18. Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by administration.
  19. Embrace diversity in the health office.
  20. Affect changes in nurse/student relationships.
  21. Participate in shared decision making.
  22. Be available as needed to assist students before and after school.
  23. Cover for medications and emergencies for an absent School Nurse-Teacher that you are assigned to and/or whenever necessary.
