A leading national commercial general contractor is seeking an experienced
Director of Commercial Estimating
to oversee all preconstruction and estimating operations for its growing Dallas division. The company is known for delivering complex commercial, multifamily, and institutional projects across multiple states, while fostering a culture built on integrity, mentorship, and long-term career growth.

This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for guiding the estimating department, shaping preconstruction strategy, strengthening subcontractor relationships, and ensuring accurate, competitive, and compelling proposals across all project types.

About the Role

The
Director of Commercial Estimating
leads all aspects of preconstruction and estimating, including team management, procurement strategy, bid execution, and early client engagement. This individual serves as the first point of contact for owners, architects, engineers, and consultants during the preconstruction phase—directly influencing win probabilities, project feasibility, and long-term client relationships.

You will manage, mentor, and develop a team of estimators while actively collaborating with project managers, superintendents, and executive leadership to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions that align with company goals.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead and mentor the estimating department, ensuring strong collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
• Oversee workload distribution, training, and development of junior and senior estimators.
• Establish and enforce best practices, standards, and quality controls for all preconstruction deliverables.

Preconstruction & Estimating Strategy

• Direct all preconstruction and estimating efforts for commercial and multifamily projects.
• Review schematic designs, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and conceptual budgets.
• Establish project procurement strategies and critical path schedules during early planning phases.
• Ensure clear, compelling bid submissions and owner-facing proposal packages.

Client & Subcontractor Relationships

• Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, and consultants during preconstruction.
• Strengthen relationships with regional subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive and high-quality bids.
• Ensure strong subcontractor coverage across all trades and project scopes.

Operational Excellence

• Identify opportunities for cost savings, alternative materials, and creative value engineering.
• Support operations teams post-award to ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to project execution.
• Maintain and leverage estimating technology platforms, including Procore and digital takeoff tools.
• Uphold company standards in organization, accuracy, communication, and client service.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
  , including hard-bid, conceptual, and negotiated projects.
• 5+ years of leadership or management experience
  within an estimating or preconstruction department.
• Strong relationships with commercial subcontractors and suppliers in the Dallas–Fort Worth market.
• Proficiency with estimating software, quantity takeoff tools, and
  Procore
  .
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with owners, designers, engineers, and field teams.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex workflows, and deliver accurate, competitive bids.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
