Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment (MOR) is part of the College Access unit within OMA&D, which partners with K–12 districts, two-year colleges, and community organizations to expand opportunities for American Indian/Alaska Native students, first-generation college students, foster youth, and those from low-income or under-resourced communities to thrive in higher education. MOR works to identify and recruit the most promising undergraduates, helping to build a diverse and vibrant student body through inclusive admissions policies and practices. Position Complexities

The Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment team has an outstanding opportunity for an Admissions Counselor . Reporting to the Director of MOR, the Admissions Counselor supports outreach, recruitment, and admissions counseling for prospective 6–12th graders and community college students, with a focus on American Indian/Alaska Native students and those from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds. This position is responsible for providing accurate, consistent, and friendly customer service to prospective first-year students, families, guidance counselors, and community partners. Additional responsibilities include providing recruitment and outreach support to middle school, high school, and transfer applicants; managing a recruitment portfolio; conducting high school visits, college fairs, and admissions presentations; and using CRM technology. This position supports, implements, and sometimes leads events on and off campus. This position may cover both in-state and out-of-state recruitment territories, depending on the evolving needs of the office.

The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity, Multicultural Outreach and Recruitment is seeking a talented individual to assist in the implementation of first-year and transfer outreach and recruitment for a university that receives more than 70,000 applications annually.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Counseling prospective first-year and transfer applicants about opportunities at the UW, the admissions process, and academic preparation through travel, appointments, sessions, fairs, calls, emails, webinars, texts, and social media (40%)
  • Representing the UW at high schools, community colleges, conferences, community events, college fairs, and on-campus events (25%)
  • Assisting in outreach and recruitment programs and events , both in-person and virtual (15%)
  • Implementing and leading student programming for 6–12th graders that is culturally appropriate and fosters connection to the UW Husky Experience (5%)
  • Reviewing undergraduate applications through a holistic process (2%)
  • Developing productivity and status reports (8%)
  • Other duties as assigned (5%)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2–3 years of college admissions and/or outreach experience, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to be a collaborative team member with enthusiasm for UW, flexibility, sound judgment, professionalism, and maturity
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced office
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills; strong public speaking skills; ability to present the University positively to diverse populations

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse populations and understanding cultural differences and their impact on college planning
  • Experience in first-year and transfer admissions recruitment and outreach in the U.S., and understanding of the UW's distinctive qualities
  • Former student ambassador, tour guide, Resident Adviser, Peer Adviser, Orientation Leader, or similar student involvement
  • Graduate of the UW or a similar research university

Working Conditions

  • During recruitment season: evenings, weekends, flexible hours, travel to remote locations, loading and transporting materials, and standing for multiple hours
  • Comfort with technology and familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, and database tools
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver's license and Real ID compliance
