Job Summary

The ideal candidate will be proficient in EMR/EHR systems and possess extensive experience in critical care environments.

Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health history documentation using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth.
  • Administer medications and injections accurately while adhering to HIPAA regulations and aseptic techniques.
  • Perform IV infusions, catheterizations, phlebotomy, and other specialized procedures such as tube feeding and ventilator management.
  • Manage complex cases involving acute pain management, infection control, and post-acute or hospice care.
  • Assist with diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection/processing, medical imaging coordination, and cardiac catheterization preparations.
  • Provide patient education on medication administration, health coaching, nutrition, discharge planning, and chronic disease management such as diabetes or cardiovascular conditions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in hospital settings (Level I & II Trauma Centers, ICU, PICU) or outpatient clinics to ensure continuity of care.
  • Document all patient interactions thoroughly in medical records while maintaining compliance with HIPAA standards.
  • Support patients with disabilities or special needs through behavioral health support or dementia and memory care strategies.
  • Maintain infection control protocols and aseptic techniques during all procedures to ensure patient safety.

Experience

  • Proven experience working in diverse healthcare environments such as hospitals (including trauma centers), nursing homes, hospice care, outpatient clinics, or home & community care settings.
  • Extensive background in critical care areas including ICU, emergency room (ER), urgent care, or surgical units is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems for accurate documentation and billing purposes.
  • Experience with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks is required for efficient documentation.
  • Prior work with specialized populations such as pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), geriatrics (Alzheimer's/dementia/memory care), behavioral health patients or those with infectious diseases is preferred.
  • Knowledge of advanced procedures including spinal taps, dermal fillers (if applicable), gastric lavage or dialysis is a plus.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory; additional certifications such as ACLS or PALS are advantageous.
