Landscape Construction Superintendent

Island Lake, Illinois, United States McFarlin Stanford Full time $75,000 - $95,000 per year

Position Overview

The Construction Superintendent is a key leader in the execution phase of our landscape construction projects. You are the field commander — responsible for coordinating crews, managing subcontractors, ensuring safety, quality, and timelines, and turning high-end landscape plans into reality. You act as the bridge between project management and field teams, ensuring every job site is organized, efficient, and aligned with the company's standards and values. In the winter months, you shift gears to snow territory operations. This includes managing plowing crews, coordinating equipment and route logistics, and ensuring safe, timely, and effective snow and ice removal. Your ability to plan, communicate, and adapt is critical in fast-changing weather conditions, keeping both clients and team members safe while protecting their properties.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Team Coordination

  • Supervise multiple landscape construction crews and subcontractors on-site
  • Coach and support Crew Leaders, helping them stay on task, solve problems, and develop their teams
  • Ensure proper crew setup, equipment, and material delivery each day
  • Set the tone for job site professionalism, safety, and teamwork

Project Execution & Quality Control

  • Ensure all work is built to design specifications, company standards, and local codes
  • Track progress against project timelines and daily/weekly goals
  • Anticipate and resolve field issues quickly to minimize delays
  • Conduct job walks and punch list reviews to ensure high-quality results

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all job site safety procedures and policies
  • Conduct safety meetings and monitor for compliance (PPE, equipment use, etc.)
  • Report and document any incidents or hazards and correct them promptly
  • Communication & Reporting
  • Act as the primary field contact for Project Managers, Estimators, and Clients (when needed)
  • Provide daily updates on progress, issues, and needs
  • Review and approve crew timecards, equipment logs, and job reports
  • Collaborate with Procurement or Shop teams for material/equipment coordination

Resource & Schedule Management

  • Organize manpower and equipment allocation for each project
  • Work with the Project Manager to sequence tasks and adjust timelines when necessary
  • Support job site setup and closeout procedures, including final inspections and warranty handoffs
