Job Description:

The UX Research Manager serves as the insight and empathy lead for Connecting Mothers Initiative. This role focuses on uncovering the
why

behind user behaviors and ensuring that every product and program decision is grounded in real community voices.

The UX Research Manager will design, conduct, and synthesize research studies that inform design, product strategy, and organizational learning. They will also build and manage a research repository, guide the research strategy and roadmap in partnership with the UX Director and Product Manager, and mentor research interns. This role plays a vital part in translating user insights into actionable opportunities that advance CMI's mission and impact goals.

Duration:

6 months, with the option to commit longer based on performance.

Compensation:

This is not a paid position.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and guide CMI's user research strategy and roadmap in partnership with the UX Director and Product Manager.
  • Design and conduct qualitative and quantitative research studies (e.g., interviews, surveys, usability tests, diary studies).
  • Synthesize research findings into actionable insights and recommendations that inform design, product, and leadership decisions.
  • Build and manage a research repository and participant database to support ongoing organizational learning.
  • Present research outcomes through compelling reports, visuals, and storytelling that center on real voices and lived experiences.
  • Partner with community organizations to expand participant reach, diversity, and inclusivity in research.
  • Mentor and support research interns, fostering collaboration across design, product, and program teams.
  • Collaborate with the UX Director to align research insights with design direction and organizational priorities.
  • Ensure all research activities uphold principles of empathy, inclusivity, and equity in representing CMI's diverse community.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree equivalent experience in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Science, Psychology, Anthropology, Statistics, or Human Factors.
  • 2+ years of experience conducting user research (qualitative and/or quantitative) and synthesizing insights into design or strategy.
  • Deep knowledge of diverse research methods: generative (exploratory), evaluative (usability testing), quantitative (surveys, analytics), qualitative (interviews, field studies).
  • Ability to translate research into business product impact (insights → recommendations → strategic decisions).
  • Skills in data analysis or statistics, including quantitative methods
  • Strategic thinking: setting research vision/roadmap, aligning research with business goals.
  • Communication & influencing skills: presenting to senior stakeholders, advocating for user research, building research culture.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity-centered and inclusive research practices.
  • Passion for CMI's mission of supporting mothers, caregivers, and families.

Preferred Experience:

  • A Master's degree or PhD or equivalent experience in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Science, Psychology, Anthropology, Statistics, Human Factors, for research-oriented credibility, especially quantitative research or advanced methods.
  • Experience with people leadership/team management (managing researchers, hiring/mentoring, building team processes.)
