Job PurposeThe Director of the Office for Child and Youth Protection is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's efforts to create a safe environment for the children in our care and provide compassionate assistance to victims of sexual abuse. The Director oversees the implementation of policies and coordinates with other offices within the Archdiocese as needed.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership
- Develop a vision and strategic plan to guide the office and the Archdiocese
- Identify, assess, and inform the Archbishop and/or his designee of internal and external issues that affect the office and the Archdiocese
- Act as a professional advisor to the Archbishop and/or his designee on all aspects of the office's activities
- Foster effective team work between the Director and staff
- Act as a spokesperson for the office and the Archdiocese
- Represent the office at community activities to enhance the office's and the Archdiocese's community profile
Operational planning and management
- Develop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the mission of the office
- Ensure that the operation of the office meets the expectations of the organization
- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the office
- Draft policies for the approval of the Archbishop and prepare procedures to implement the organizational policies; review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the Archbishop and/or his designee as appropriate
- Ensure that personnel and client files are securely stored and privacy is maintained
Program planning and management
- Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the office's programs and services
- Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the priorities of the Archdiocese
- Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization to maintain or improve quality
- Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects
Human resources planning and management
- Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery
- Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job description for all staff
- Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and Archdiocesan regulations
- Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further the organization's mission
- Ensure that all staff receive an orientation to the organization and that appropriate training is provided
- Implement a performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on-going basis
- Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance
- Discipline staff when necessary using appropriate techniques; release staff when necessary using appropriate procedures
Financial planning and management
- Work with staff and the Office of Financial Services to prepare a comprehensive budget
- Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Archbishop
- Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed
- Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization
- Provide the reports on the revenues and expenditure of the office
Community relations/advocacy
- Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the office and to identify changes in the community served by the office
- Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, interested parties, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization
Education: Master's degree required in related field.
Specialized Knowledge:
- Knowledge of victim services and trauma informed practices, child abuse prevention practices.
- Working knowledge of and comfort with Catholic faith and parish life is required.
Abilities
- Travel within five counties of the Archdiocese is required.
- Position is contingent on successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Successful completion of mandatory Office for Child and Youth Protection trainings.
Licenses: None
Experience:
- At least five years' experience in the related field
- At least five years managerial experience required
- Experience with managing fiscal budget
- Experience working in the child welfare and victim assistance professions
This position is expected to be carried out during operating hours of the organization and beyond as needed. May require working on evenings and weekends.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
