Employment Type

● Full Time (independent contractor or salaried): 40 Hours, remote work, with occasional in-person training & meetings on island

● Probation Period: 90 days from start date

● Reports To: Charis Higginson, Executive Director

Position Summary

The Director of Philanthropy will lead all aspects of Humanity Hale's fundraising and income-generating efforts to ensure the sustainability and expansion of our programs.

This individual will bring a deep understanding of ethical fundraising, relationship-building, and strategic planning. They will work closely with the Executive Director, grant writer, and broader team to amplify our mission and engage donors, grantmakers, and community partners with integrity and care.

The Director of Philanthropy will also oversee grant management, ensure compliance and reporting, and maintain close collaboration with our CPA and accounting firm. Additionally, grant research and writing will be requested as workload permits.

Key Responsibilities

● Drive revenue growth by developing and executing a strategic fundraising plan to meet annual and long-term financial goals.

● Build and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners to maximize giving.

● Research, write, and manage grants, including reporting, compliance, and maintaining a robust grant pipeline.

● Maintain close working relationships with Humanity Hale's CPA and accounting firm to ensure alignment between fundraising income, financial reporting, and compliance.

● Lead major giving and donor cultivation campaigns, including events and storytelling initiatives.

● Collaborate with program staff to align funding with impact and track key outcomes.

● Maintain accurate donor records and oversee database management.

● Work with the communications team to develop compelling fundraising materials and campaigns.

● Engage and support the Board of Directors in philanthropic efforts.

● Monitor fundraising metrics and provide regular progress reports to leadership.

● Participate in grant writing and research as needed, to support organizational goals.

● Center equity, transparency, and trauma-informed principles in all philanthropic practices.

● Support the Hawaiian Arts for Healing program as Program Director, assisting in program design and coordination, data collection, performance measurement, and tracking outcomes.

Qualifications

● Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations, with a strong track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals.

● Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

● Deep respect for culturally grounded, community-based work.

● Ability to think strategically, act compassionately, and lead with humility.

● Experience with fundraising software (e.g., Little Green Light, Bloomerang, etc.) & grant software (Asana) a plus.

● Passion for youth empowerment, trauma recovery, and place-based healing.

● Strong organizational and time management skills to balance multiple priorities and

deadlines.

● Preference for someone with existing relationships with foundations who can hit the ground running

Compensation & Benefits

● Independent Contractor Rate: $35/hour OR

● Full time salary $75,000/year. Worker's compensation, medical insurance, retirement plan.
