Overview

The role is providing Neonatal Nurse Practitioner care for surgical patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery. This includes (not limited to) rounding on the patients, completing physical exams, order entry, coordinating care, responding to changing clinical needs, and functioning as a liaison between other NICU providers and the Surgery providers. A person in this role will function mostly independently but in collaboration with Critical Care Fellow and NICU attending Surgeon.

Provides comprehensive health care services to neonatal patient population; obtains health history; performs physical examination; formulates a plan of care; performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; participates in patient/family education. Demonstrates clinical leadership and actively participates in performance improvement activities with emphasis in clinical research.

Responsibilities- Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care for the patient/family which promotes optimal patient outcomes. - Serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the health care team. - Meets the educational needs of patient/family, utilizing principles of teaching/learning.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree MSN required and 3-5 years experience Neonatal RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
  • Other DNP preferred and 3-5 years experience Neonatal RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit's patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred Upon Hire
  • APRN board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
