Rate: $35 to 40/hr

Job Summary:

General Description:

The Coding Quality Auditor/Educator is responsible for performing internal quality assessment reviews of coders to ensure compliance with national coding guidelines and organizational policies. This role ensures accurate, complete, and consistent coding to support appropriate reimbursement and data integrity. The position also coordinates and delivers coding education, facilitates training sessions, and assists leadership with process improvement, root cause analysis, and the development of quality action plans.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conducts internal quality reviews for inpatient and outpatient coding to ensure compliance with established standards and guidelines.
  • Responds to coding-related inquiries from Health System coding staff.
  • Leads, coordinates, and performs all quality review functions (routine, pre-bill, policy-driven, and incentive-based).
  • Provides Coding Integrity Specialist (CIS) and Coding Quality Review (CQR) education as needed.
  • Initiates rebilling processes per policy for special projects and escalates coding opportunities as appropriate.
  • Monitors QA results, identifies root causes, and collaborates with leadership on educational opportunities.
  • Assists in curriculum development, training document preparation, and coding quality action plans.
  • Coaches, mentors, and provides educational support to coding staff, ensuring adherence to coding guidelines and policies.
  • Performs annual education needs assessments and contributes to the strategic coding education program.
  • Researches industry trends, coding updates, and best practices to maintain current expertise.
  • Participates in special reviews, projects, and coding meetings as assigned.

  • 95% accuracy
    in coding quality

    benchmark compliance
  • Demonstrates expert-level knowledge of medical coding practices, coding guidelines, and data quality standards.
  • Provides high-quality customer service, adhering to the organization's Code of Conduct, Mission, and Values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a related field (preferred).
  • Certification:
    RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or equivalent coding certification required.
  • Experience:
    Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive coding experience, including auditing and education responsibilities.
  • Skills:
  • Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective training sessions using adult learning principles.
