As an Aerospace Engineering Intern at Poseidon Aerospace, you will help develop and test the aerodynamic and performance characteristics of our next-generation composite aircraft. You will assist with CFD modeling, aerodynamic analysis, performance estimation, and test data correlation. This role offers hands-on exposure to the full aircraft development process, from simulation to real-world validation. You will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute directly to flight-ready designs.
Responsibilities:
Assist in developing aerodynamic surfaces, configurations, and control geometries using CFD toolsSupport performance analyses for aerodynamic, propulsion, and flight efficiency studiesHelp compare CFD and analytical results to wind tunnel or flight test dataContribute to flight dynamics modeling and simulation for stability and control evaluationPrepare and refine geometry in CAD for CFD and aerodynamic analysisWork with engineers on design trade studies that balance aerodynamic performance and manufacturabilityHelp document aerodynamic results, performance models, and testing dataParticipate in ground or flight test preparation and post-test data review
Ideal Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related fieldFamiliarity with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent, Star-CCM+, or OpenFOAMBasic understanding of aerodynamics, aircraft performance, and stability and controlExperience with CAD software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, CATIA, or NXInterest in aerodynamic optimization and performance analysisAbility to process and visualize simulation or flight dataFamiliarity with composite materials and their use in aircraft structures is a plusMotivated learner with a hands-on mindset and strong attention to detail
Nice to Have:
Experience with student aircraft design projects, wind tunnel testing, or UAV developmentExposure to scripting in Python or MATLAB for CFD or data automationFamiliarity with performance or aerodynamic modeling tools such as AVL or SU2Basic knowledge of structural loads and stress fundamentalsInterest in experimental aircraft, seaplanes, or high-lift configurations
