Director of Market Intelligence Job Description

Position: Director of Market Intelligence

Reports To: Chief Medical Officer (Global)

Location: Irvine, CA

Overview

The Director of Market Intelligence leads the newly established Market Intelligence function under the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), serving as MicroPort's external lens into the global medtech ecosystem. This role consolidates competitive, regulatory, clinical, and economic signals across multiple business units into actionable intelligence that informs R&D priorities, clinical evidence planning, business development, and commercial strategy. Working directly with the Global Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and in coordination with the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), the Director will develop and execute the company's first enterprise level intelligence framework by integrating data from across the enterprise into a single system of foresight and strategic alignment. This is an exceptional opportunity for a strategic, analytically driven professional to shape how a global medical technology company competes, anticipates market shifts, and defines its innovation and evidence agenda. Key Responsibilities Intelligence Strategy & Integration (40%)
• Lead the design and implementation of the enterprise-wide Market Intelligence operating model, integrating inputs from Clinical, Regulatory, Business Development, and Strategy functions.
• Establish formal intelligence-gathering processes and templates across subsidiaries for Win/Loss, KOL, and Procurement analyses.
• Create the enterprise framework for Innovation Frontier Intelligence (IFI): monitoring competitor pipelines, regulatory and endpoint trends, and technology adjacencies in developed markets.
• Oversee synthesis of Value-Based Market Intelligence (VBMI) inputs from Strategy (Business Development) and regional teams into standard formats and unified dashboards with IFI.
• Align all intelligence processes with CMO and CCO deliverables to ensure that external foresight translates into internal evidence and commercial plans. Deliverables & Execution (30%)
• Produce quarterly BU-specific Market Landscape Dossiers (e.g., Coronary, Surgical Robotics) integrating competitive, regulatory, and clinical insights.
• Coordinate and lead briefings ahead of major global congresses (ACC, TCT, ESC, EuroPCR).
• Generate Executive Dashboards with near-real-time updates for leadership on competitor activities, regulatory filings, and tender outcomes.
• Support Intelligence-to-Evidence alignment sessions with the CMO and Clinical Affairs teams to ensure trial designs reflect market and regulator expectations.
• Develop and maintain intelligence databases and knowledge systems ensuring traceability and consistency across subsidiaries. Collaboration and Leadership (30%)
• Manage a small, high-performing team of analysts and associates.
• Track implementation of CMO initiatives across Shanghai subsidiaries, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
• Serve as the primary interface between Market Intelligence, Strategy, Business Development, and the CMO offices.
• Support the SVP of Projects and R&D teams in aligning design and feasibility programs with emerging clinical and regulatory trends.
• Partner with Marketing and Commercial teams to integrate intelligence into launch and positioning strategies.
• Build a culture of analytical rigor, foresight, and cross-functional collaboration across all intelligence contributors.
• Serve as an internal advocate for "One MicroPort" decision-making by ensuring all intelligence is accessible and actionable across business units. Qualifications Required
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in business, management, life sciences, biomedical engineering, health economics, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in market intelligence, upstream marketing, or strategy within the global medtech, life sciences, or healthcare sectors.
• Demonstrated expertise in competitive intelligence, regulatory trend analysis, and clinical evidence evaluation.
• Proven ability to translate complex clinical and regulatory insights into actionable written business recommendations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to brief C-suite executives with clarity and precision. Preferred
• MBA, MPH, or equivalent business qualification.
• Prior experience leading or building market intelligence or upstream strategy functions within a multinational company.
• Familiarity with medical-device regulatory frameworks (FDA, CE MDR, NMPA) and health economic drivers of adoption.
• Experience coordinating cross-border teams and integrating data from multiple business units.
• Mandarin proficiency. Key Attributes
• Strategic Integrator: Connects intelligence, evidence, and strategy into a single coherent narrative.
• Analytical Architect: Builds systems and processes that scale beyond ad-hoc reporting.
• Communicator: Translates technical insights into executive-level clarity.
• Collaborator: Works fluidly across medical, commercial, and R&D boundaries.
• Builder: Excited by establishing a first-of-its-kind function with enterprise visibility.
