About EBALDC
For almost 20 years, EBALDC has been developing and refining a range of asset building programs that complement our housing services, including free tax preparation, individual development accounts (IDAs), youth financial literacy, and financial counseling. One of our longest lasting programs is our IRS-supported Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services, which integrates a Savings Initiative and financial counseling and coaching into its model. Every year, VITA programs across the country help millions of low to moderate income (LMI) individuals and families file their taxes for free, liberating them from predatory preparation practices that lower their returns. By providing this service to the community, we bring income back into the pockets of Bay Area residents and help them plan for the future. Since EBALDC began providing VITA services in 2003, we've grown assist almost 14,000 LMI individuals and families claim more than $20 million in tax refunds including approximately $9 million in Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC). In 2025, our sites completed 1,100+ tax returns.
